Nullifier's budget garage make over

Well guys it is time to get my garage in order. I have let things get totally out of control. It has become the dumpingground of tools outdoor gear and junk lol! So today I got a wild hir and started the make over. As you can see the first thing I needed was a plan.

So first I made a list of my needs. Outdoor equipent area, house hold and automotive supplies, Yard equipment, Workstation, welding area, increased lighting. Tall order for standard 20 x 22 2 car garage but I know others that have less right.

First order of buisness was to go to H.D. to fill in some gaps for my budget makeover Picked up some fastners 1x2, peg board etc for $40

Once home I cut some 2x4 and mounted them to the block wall for my canoe and kayak rack. A basic 2x4 and shef hanger works for the yak, but I decided to mount a folding rack for the canoe so I could move it up when not in use since it is so wide. I plan to cut the canoe rack down once the garage is almost done.

Next I took my old shelving based work bench which was unseeable and used it for my outdoor gear. Took everything off cleaned it up and reloaded it with gear. It clears my trash cans so I can open the lids and has all the room I need for my gear. Small but good progress today. I figure in a few more weeks I will have it "setup".

Since I am off tomorrow I am ging to finish organizing my paddling gear and get it shelved. I am also going to mount a paddle rack above the trash cans to use that space. Once that is done I am going to move all my tools to the forward wall and get everythig out of the built in cabinet for demo.

I can't believe you still have that cab kicking around? :Wow1:

LOL it is amazing isn't it. I am taking it down to my office to store it in the warehouse, but I have been considering moving ahead with that project once the garage is set up. We will see.

I will keep my fingers crossed, I always wanted to see this one completed. Do you still have the alu tray?

Yep but it will be one or the other. I do not want to stretch the chassis and add the excab. Might as well just buy an x-cb for all that ya know. If I do the xcab I will save te bed for my new truck hopefully next year but not sure depends on $

This Space For Rent
Holy crappers dude....you just made me feel a lot better about the current situation in my shop! I would go insane having that much "potential" space without even a path to walk through! Good for you on getting things cleaned up and organized. You certainly won't regret it. The real trick will be keeping it that way :)

Wow! I had to clean the garage yesterday also! You made a bigger dent then I did. I find an old magazine and I have to sit down and read it just to make sure I don't need it anymore.... What's your secret? :sombrero:

Very good.....perhaps a bit of inspiration?.....

I recently "revamped" my garage as well using 3'x4'x3/4" sheets of engineered (read very nice & smooth & strong) ply that I got for free from work and some commercial (Lozier) shelving that I got for free from my Father-in-laws warehouse. I also scored some 2'x4' Flourecent Troffers for $10ea.....what a difference! :wings:

It's not quite done yet but you can actually walk through it, and it's a world apart from when I bought the place. Framework with black insulation (talk about dark & dreary)

The work bench above used to span from left edge all the way to the wall with 6 posts to the floor. The table in the middle & the D30 is are both gone now, I was using the D30 to take measurements for the JK Control Arms that I picked up to install on the XJ.... (so far it's looking good :ylsmoke: )

This is our post apacalyptic food storage....

What you can't see much of in the last picture is the 2 spare 33's hanging on the wall above the shelving. There's also 2 spare tires for the wifes car.

I'm liking my garage much better now, and I'm sure you will as well.

:sombrero: Got a suggestion for the canoe/other

Try a Racor Heavy duty Hoist, bolts to the Overhead joists and will lift up to 250 lbs

$139.00 Costco, amazon.--internet

Thanks for the tip but that big 17' canoe is only 45 lbs. If I was hoisting a rtt or topper I would be all over it. Plus I need it of to the sidewal so I can park my truck in the garage when this is all said and done. With only an 8' cieling it would be to low.

So after day 2 or should I say a 1/2 day 2. I had to take my daughter to the Doc this morning, and swing by work so I did not get started till 1. However I made some decent progress.

First I hung my paddle rack on the wall. It is behind the canoe to utilize that dead space.

Next I started to move the auto stuff from the top half of the cabinet to a rollingrack opposite wall of the outdoor gear. The cabinet is 1/2 way ready for demo.

Then I started to fish through the mess in the middle. Loaded up some in the burb to go to charity, another pile to go back to work and then a 3rd pile for craigslist.

So despite only working for 4 hours I feel good about todays efforts. Still a long way to go but I now have a path to walk through te garage. Plus I moved my tool box to the front wall ,relocated my Norcold 60 next to it to keep the beverages cold.
