RR sport vs. D110 discussion

The LR3/RR/RRS are excellent cars, fun to drive and comfortable and full of useful features, but they lack the timeless look and the classic ruggedness of the Defenders.

Think of it this way, would John Wayne pick a RRSC or a Defender?

Negative. He would obviously choose a CJ3A :costumed-smiley-007

Actually he'd choose a Chevy PU.

Yeah, the jeep was in the movie (as was a CJ and a S1 Land Rover), but most of the time Wayne was in the Chevy.
But I'll watch it this evening just to double check. ;)

That FC170 is just too cool... There is a decent looking one on the Phoenix Craigslist right now I think. I spent some time the other day looking for one for a friend to use as a plow truck.

I'm curious what the story is with coil conversion and availability for the LR3, and whether or not it can be retrofitted to the RR sport?
Very telling this. People sing the praised of new technology, then there are questions on how to replace new technology with older, more reliable.

Excellent point, Tom. Those that use/will use their RRS/RR/LR3s off road want the ability to be able to perform repairs on the fly, if necessary. One reason, anyway, for the reversal. Not that you didn't know this...

Speaking of comfort, I've been driving my 110 every day to work lately because I sold my DD. I drive about 60 miles round trip, most of it over a somewhat windy, mountain highway. It's not particularly pleasant and my body is not happy.

Traveling long distances for extended periods of time would be tough, but then again, presuming one were out on an expedition while doing that traveling, it would take the sting out of it some. I don't get nearly as cramped up while driving off road in my 110 than I do when I'm on road. Mostly mental, I guess.

Thankfully, just picked up a Tundra for use as my DD. Goodbye knee and back pain, hello quiet comfort.

does your signature suggest that you want to part with your 110? if so, have you listed it and where?

also, why is it you are unhappy with the truck?

an long trip across latin america in a range rover sport would be a very comfortable trip!

and extremely dangerous!!

you would be a moving target.

unless the Rover was "blindado" and even then, every time you got out you'd be in danger.

bad enough traveling in a 110 but at least they are also used by Utility companies and other companies.

Fellas, until you drive a LR3(or RRS- same platform), you cannot believe it!! I have driven Defenders for the past 15 years, and recently sold one to a dealer in Co. As partial payment, I got a new LR3, with 2" lift, ARB front bumper, winch, etc. Anyway, we did a few trails while out there, and then drove it home. My initial plan was to simply wholesale it, and finish out the deal. No way- it is capable beyond belief, super comfortable, and will spoil you silly. Would I take it up Blanca- doubtful. But shy of the toughest trails, it will amaze, and as an expedition platform covering lots of miles, no comparasson. And quite honestly, a few years down the road, when the new is worn off, who knows :)
I must repestcfully disagree...

But then that simply comes down to our own personal definition of what you want in a truck. I'm glad to hear alot of good things from owners because it means you're out enjoying your truck. Personaly I just think that if given a proper engine, currently the JK Rubicon is about the most capable truck in the NA market for an expo platform. For my tastes the LR3 wouldn't be on the menu, It's just not my kind of rig. to each their own though eh.

One of the early "velar" trucks. ...

THis old beauty... it is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it. That to me would be a great DD Every-day driver IMO. I just love old simple rigs. I prefer levers and gears to buttons and wires. What motors would have been in these??? I'm thinking a 22RE SFA Toyota drivetrain would make a great partner to that body/chasis in terms of a neat project rig. Or maybe just a 300TDi and up-rated axles from whatever Rover made the burliest. OT Question:what would the strongest drivetrain combo for a Rover regardless of age or model??? I'm not terribly familliar with the Axles tranny's and T-cases they made, I just know stock Disco axle shafts go pop with big tires... Course so do Birfields(Read: Toyota) and Dana30/35 or AMC20's (read Jeeps: something I think the new JK is comndable for, and Mopar in general for their d44 Axle's and swap options...)so each maker has it's issues eh.

Cheers

Dave

Edit: I found a few More :D I really like the old 2dr RR... Such a classic looking truck. I really think these are a new favorite truck of mine... I just keep looking at them and dreaming... Oh NO I HAVE ROVER FEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rangie porn. my god - that yellow truck is giving me WOOD!

All those early rigs had 3.5L aluminum V8's with LT95 4-sp transmissions, which featured an integrated transfer case. the t-case was separated into the LT230 in 1984. They were first paired with LT77 transmissions.
