Need some series help!

Thank you for all of the help! Once I get the rover in my driveway I will take more detailed shots so maybe we can figure out what parts have been put on this beast. Where is the best place to get a manual and maybe a used haynes? I am not going to be cutting into the sides anytime soon but is that my only option? Again my thanks for all the help and if I do decide to get rid of the top I will let you know first antichrist.
The door tops were made by the PO and are indeed broken plexiglass so that will be towards the top of my list. Is there a way to tell if they are def defender doors and if so will any other door tops work? I am still trying to find a pic of what it looked like stock, what was painted and what wasn't as someone has painted over everything that wasn't a light. That bit about the brits and their painting is funny and I was thinking it looked like there was about 5 coats of exterior latex piled on.
Thanks again, I will continue my research and I'm sure I will have many more questions pop up. Once I get the paperwork I will post it on here and see where to start.

Those are series doors which come in two parts. The steel frame of the door tends to rot out along the bottom edge but if they have done that reaplcements aer readily available from the usual suspects.

You can also buy replacement steel door tops from the usual suspects or for about the same money you can get the very nice Rocky Mountain aluminium framed ones that last forever.

For the door tops anything from a '62 (maybe earlier) to '85 will work. The window latch is different between SIIa and SIII and MOD door tops didn't have window latches. At least on my lightweight they didn't and they are the same as civvy ones. You might turn up some used ones cheap that might do you for a while if you want to put your money in to other bits.
You can get side panels that already have windows, or make some out of 88 and 5 door 109 panels. A good wing mounted convex mirror would help a lot as well. My lightweight has a serious blind spot when I have the canvas on and that's what I did.

Have you heard anything about the frame or bulkhead? I didn't see any pictures of those areas. They are the most prone to rust-you should see the door pillars,footwells,frame and area around the windshield hinges.

From the pictures my guess is that it was originaly marine blue.

Looking at your truck another outside chance is that it is not a 67 but a 69 thru 71 Late IIA. The cab features the details that came in during 67 thru to 71 with the single wiper motor, 3 spoke steering wheel and a few other things. That could explain the lights being in the front wings too.

Post up a VIN number and it can be deciphered.

When did the heater intake move to the outer wings? Strange to see a snow-covered RHD series rover with no heater hole on the left wing.

EDIT: Oh...and it looks like the wide sill panels, so my guess would be that that's the original radiator support panel and the SIII non-MoD wings were added later.

My ex-MoD '71 is missing a heater fresh air intake...aside from the civvy looking frame and the radiator support with holes for lamps, it looks remarkably similar.

Your '71 doesn't have the MOD light switches on the dash? For turning off the marker lights, convoy light etc?

Actually, it's got the GIANT rotary switch with all the goofy selections / combinations under the sun....er, moon on it.

Sorry, I should said that the grey/tan combination shown here "generally" looks similar to mine...

It did have a "deluxe" bonnet with recessed MoD spare mount when I got it. That bonnet has passed on to Aloha Rover as I wanted a no-spare mount that I could see over

The CL trucks had a civvy lighting system. The MOD started buying the CL in the 70's but I have yet to find a picture of a late IIA CL.

Right, I would expect they would, since, as I understand it, they were just basically civvy trucks put in to MoD service. I've seen rumors of IIa CL's, but no photos either.
