Hello all,
As the new exclusive distributor for the Jurgens line from South Africa, I thought I'd see what you all thought of specific models and what appeals to you. We'll be taking orders for these beauties.

Jurgens is the premier caravan/camper trailer brand from South Africa, and has been in the business for almost 70 years, so they have a bit of experience! Here is their lineup of purpose-built off-road camper trailers, designed for African conditions. These trailers have been tested in the Kalahari, the Okavango Delta, and on the terrible roads of Mozambique.

Lets have some input and first reactions....! Features to follow.

Explorer, Overland Certified OC0020
I would like to know more about the Explorer. Floor plan, size, weight, and price. Looks promising! :sombrero:

That is cool!

On the Explorer, can use the kitchen on the inside too, or does it have to be deployed?

Me too - emphasis on PRICE.

So far it seems like the S. African and Australian trailers built like are awesome in terms of capablity, quality, and toughness. However, when they come with a price tag of 80 grand, they become less appealing...

Also Australia. Had an Oryx from 2003 until Dec 09. The early model had a few basic design flaws that I fixed, and once done it was perfect for our needs. Only sold as the Mog Camper is nearing completion and it wouldn't have got the use. We have had trouble getting Jurgens Campers for the last 4-5 years but they now manufacture the Caravans in Aust.

I can recommend the Oryx. Some very innovative ideas and the size is right for real off road.

We'll get that out for you soon. Difficult with such large items to plan the price and be on target, so we'd like to be sure. I'll get all the specs out ASAP converted to standard. We'll also be getting them on the site soon. I'll upload pics here of the floorplan and layout of each one.
That is cool!
Well, we think so too. They've proven very popular in Southern Africa, and we think they will meet a need and suit a purpose here too.

I'm going to have to check on that for you! The Explorer had a redesign and I need to make sure before I give you an answer.

You're right, $80k would be less appealing! Lucky for us, we'll be looking at about half that, around $40k for the top of the line Explorer! The Xcape may come in at around $30k, and the Oryx at $25k. We still have a lot of figuring to do, but the ballpark is about right. We anticipate final price going down, not up.
Thanks, Bill - we hope to add all those details and more on the BunduGear website in the next couple of days. We'll keep you all updated.
that explorer II looks pretty cool.
Yip - we're looking forward to getting our own, for trips to take my toddler on, and also for next years Expo!

That's great to hear - I know that the Oryx has undergone some great changes and updates since 2003, based on experience of many thousands of miles of testing in harsh conditions. I think it will be a great asset to the market here, and allow a lot of people to go the places they really want to go, in the manner their heart desires (and their Spouses!)

Will they be built in Africa then shipped here, or will you build them here using their plans?

Probably save a bundle if you could build them in the States.

X2 on the Oryx.

How soon do you plan on having them in stock for delivery?

Just keep us updated as events unfold. :)

EDIT: Also one more question, sort of relating to the point of production. I'm curious about the wiring, sort of assuming that it will be changed from 220V to 120V when they are sold here?

Yes, we may be able to save a bundle by making them here, but it will first take an obscene amount of money and time to either start production here, or to have the construction contracted here but have to redo all the quality testing etc. We know the quality of the product coming from South Africa, and there is no process involved. After increased labor costs, materials, licensing etc, it may not be a significant difference in costs here, but we are of course investigating all options!
Certainly for now, they will be made in the experienced factory in South Africa, shipped here, and retrofitted for DOT and NHTSA spec.

Absolutely - all the wiring will be done here, since in SA we use a different plug (2-pin round pin), and we'll switch it to 110-120V.
We'll definitely keep you updated on the progress!

Wanna place an order?
Seriously, we'll be trying to get some demo's in ASAP, but I'm sure you can all understand, that with the expense involved, we're realistically only looking towards the fall before we'll do that. These are expensive items that we really don't want to keep idle in a warehouse. They're too cool for that!

At the moment, we're looking at 4-6 months for delivery on ordered product. The factory is producing to meet demand in South Africa, and since we are new, have to fit into the production schedule. It may be less, but I don't want to promise any earlier, because I don't like to disappoint.
