Fold down table for rear door?

Just an FYI, this is a project that is on my radar to complete within a few months. Thinking about using basically a cutting board for the table portion, and various hardware bits and pieces to complete the kit. Unfortunately I have a lot of projects on my plate so I keep pushing this one back...

I think I will keep the twine. I thought about chain or cable, but the twine is lighter and doesn't clink, kink, or make noise. It's 3 mil perlon cord, so it's plenty strong.

The drawer system is African Outback.

I'm a little confused. I'm guessing you paid at least 1k for the outback drawer system and then you skimp on the table?

Kind of like buying a Rover, then building a table for it.


Seriously though, this has me considering a paracord solution. I don't like the "one angle only" limitation of the gas strut solution, and my adjustable chain is noisy even in the tool bag.

The cutting board is too slick. I went with King Starlite XL because it came in black and found that stuff would slide off of it. I wound up covering it with black kitchen shelf liner. It worked well as it was easy to wipe clean but also provided a non-slip surface.

It doesn't need to be adjustable. In the 3 years I had mine I never once wished I could adjust it. The strut, on the other hand, prevented numerous spills as the shelf stayed open when bumped (which happens frequently).

I guess that my feeling is that the cord is the most effective solution that there is. I'm not skimping. Cord is light, simple, not likely to break, functions well. What is "better" than a cord?

The cord is fine and probably works well, I would say. But from the pic it looked like cheap kite string.

you should have just bought a range rover. it has a table built in. :elkgrin:
