I am thinking about selling my Discovery. It,s been Fun but I can get my Wife to driver any more than 100 miles from home in it because she thinks it will strand us (it never has). I really want to just get what I paid for the truck back the goodies and new parts just have to go with it. I paid 5,000 with 116,000 miles on it. I now have 125,000, I have added a Roof rack (XD style rover rack) and wired the back with a Hella socket for fridge power. I have put in a New Radiator, Bosh spark plugs and wires, new idle pulley, New Belt and fan clutch, all 4 O2 sensors are new too. I have new u joint and a full set of new rubber bushings for the suspension I just have not had time to put them in. the only real problem right now is that the rear right door look locks about 10 times when I lock the doors. Don't know that that is. I would like to get 5800 to cover a little of the rack it was new. But really would be happy to just get most of my 5000 from buying it back. Any ideas where to start listing?

Well not to add another head gasket vs. other problems thread to the forum I'll just put it here. I just took my Rover in to the shop at my wits end try to locate how air was getting into my cooling system. The guy at the rover shop thinks I have a crack somewhere letting air in from the exhaust. That could be anything from a head gasket to a new motor. The weird part is the rover's engine temperature seam to be alright. It not overheating or anything, and it runs between 189 and 205 depending on speed and out side temperature. I'm looking for a little advice. I don't have time to do a HG myself and can't afford to by a new motor right now. What direction should I go? If he pulls the motor apart and it's not the HG, I'm in to big money. Well I guess I'm into big money no matter what. Should I just start saving for a new motor or Try to fix what I have. I guess im not selling now.
Any help!

Oh and it was also kicking out a PO 1316 miss fire excessive emissions and a PO 300 miss fire mutable cylinders.

Only because the Tow other times I put in K-seal it caused other Problems. But I guess I could Try again.

When did you put the new radiator in? D1's are notoriously hard to successfully bleed. Also, why do you think air was getting into your system? What were the symptoms?

Well Im going to pull the heads and see what I see. If Its just a head gasket and a head Machining than Ill do it, but if its more than that I'm geting a Chevrolet 4.3! Its going to be a bonding project for me and my Step Brother!!!

Sounds like you're keeping it either way. Glad to hear. :)

I know that I'm going to need a new head gasket but I still trying to work stuff out. Last fall I had some had some coolant lost from the radiator so I put in some k-seal till I could get a new one. The next day the rover started to over heat. When I finally got it home I parked it in the back yard and got to work. With the New Radiator it ran fine for about a month and then I started getting some air in my Cooling system. Tried to Burp it out no good always came back. Finally I got the Check engine light no. It now has a P300 P302 P306 and a p 1316
that's a Misfire on Cylinder 2 and 6 as well as excessive emissions. Runs a little ruff at start and its losing coolant some where in the system. Oil looks fine exhaust smells fine. Not oil in the Coolant. Runs fine after about a min, and its not over heating from what I have been told on other forums. Although the Rover tech at Old English said what I thought was normal 190 to 205 was way to hot and that it should be at 180 and stay there. Also he said that the cooling system is holding to much pressure. So it would seam that exhaust gas is getting into the cooling system. It seams I'm looking at anything from a HG and Machining the heads to a new Motor. Really no way to know till it's cracked open. Also he said that the cooling system is holding to much pressure. I'm going to Open up the motor next month to have a look around but I'm really worried about the Block. What should I be looking for with regards to the cylinder sleeves or cracks? How conmen is a crack in a rover block? I don't want to spend the time and the money to do this HG and then find out I have a problem with the block. Are there any seals I should check first or will I be changing them all in the head job any way? I have a dvd coming in that's a walk through of a Rover HG job. If it turns out the Rover Motor is really done then I will start looking in to a Chevrolet 4.3 V6.
