Starting My M101 Build. I will call it "The Trailer of Two Cities"

I pulled the trailer up to Edinboro, Pa. this past week.
to our cottage on French Creek.

It was neat watching the other Yinzers pulling their Lowe's trailers over loaded
with their quads and firewood as I passed them with my cool M101A2.

I had around 600 lbs of equipment to work on the house and the little trailer
pulled great and followed every move of the truck.

I did hit one bump along the way and the trailer jerked a little,
But I think I just rode over a Prius?

Pintle or not?

I'm coming in late on this thread & I know I missed something reading the build - but,
are you guys towing with the pintle hitch. I have a 416 that I tow with a TJ Wrangler.
I don't realy want to cut & weld on the 416 - yet... So, are there any easy adapters or such to convert to a 2" ball/receiver hitch? (without losing the pintle set-up)!
BTW - gr8t build thread & picts... thnx for any input; Ric

Lunette ring VS a 2" ball

I am towing with both.
I use a 2" ball with my 4 four position channel, I also have a lunette ring for future off road use.
Two 5/8" pins and I can change them out or adjust the height.

Pintle or not?

Thanks for the kickback on your set-up.
I'm going to look for a "vccoupling" that I saw on another thread.
Do you know anything about it? Ric.

I put the channel on so I could lower the tongue to fit my Jeep (or any other vehicle) and the fact that I can now use a ball or a lunette is a happy coincidence with this adjustable channel.

If I had to choose between a pintle or a ball, the pintle is the winner hands down. Most versatile.

Another advantage to the adjustable mount is resale. Non-adventurers will now be more interested in it as a utility trailer.

Will look into VCCoupling. Sounds like something kinky from SE Asia!

An improvement on the Pintle Hook is Vehicle Components VC COUPLING which represents a major breakthrough in the performance of ring type couplings. The key to its ingenious design is separating the ball movement from the clamp.

The coupling locks a conventional ring into place so there is no play in-between the towing vehicle and the trailer. The base of the coupling incorporates a sealed ball joint which provides the articulation between the two vehicles.

As the movement is fully sealed the coupling can be used in arduous conditions needing no maintenance. It does not experience the excessive wear that a pintle hook and ring gets in such conditions.

The lack of play in the coupling eliminates noise and damage between the vehicle and trailer and does not snag when reversing around tight situations.

Thanks Mark for the link. So the info above makes it sound really great, but a few simple google searches turned up ZERO products for sale! Why can't I find it anywhere? Who makes these things? I am interested (especially since the bent mounting plate) but something seems fishy.

The trailer turned out very nice, I think the license plate hangs low even for street use.
I like the color you chose and the tongue channel loks good. Did you ever find a 2" ball coupler?
Keep us posted on the camper build.

Boy, the trailer is looking good. My son is starting one of ours, so we'll be following your build. I think Mark is right on the plate. If you pull your front pins and dump, the plate and lights are in trouble. Try it in a controled test before using.

Glad you all like it!

Scrap, I already did test it. Lifted the tongue up until it hit! Plastic plate mount will bend out of the way, lights are safe by about 3". The good thing is the d-rings are the first to hit the ground, They let you know when you've gone far enough and your body paint doesn't get damaged. Another happy perk of the 101. I don't plan to dump it too often.

I actually am working on a different plate mount, I just have it on like that for towing around town. The lights are more or less temporary as well. When I get into the camper build, the lights and the LP will have to be moved anyway.

Looks good. Glad you were able to find one in such good condition. I prefer mine ugly and cheap.. When you primed the trailer, did you use a sealant to seal all the seams to make it waterproof?
