Simply opening the sliding door & stepping onto the vans step puts me about face height with the cargo box.. I'll actually have to slide it a bit more into the center once my 6x8' awning arrives, but still pretty easy to access.. that box just holds our camp chairs & a few other staples unless...
BaseCamp is rolling!
Finally getting near done with the exterior/mechanical build & made a maiden voyage so thought I'd post a few pics up... tons more work to come in interior... I challenged myself years ago to build a mini-sportsmobile that I could travel & camp in during downhill bike...
Fergie... It's the Riviera package.. if I am not mistaken it was a local Portland/Vancouver oufit that molded & installed them. The back half went straight up to expand the tent vs. the tilted style, and the front has a deep luggage "tub" aka where the tomatoes are gonna be grown! :) I had a...

Once & for all, I have decided to pull the trigger on selling my beloved Shurpa.. a 1999 Awd Lifted & converted Astro. I am asking $9K oBo, and the van is located in Portland Oregon... but I would be down for one last trip in her to deliver to ya!
Please excuse the corny write up, I posted it...
You know when I set off looking for vans yours was top of my list, just couldn't find any! I still have yet to look inside of one... if I was only still in Wareham!
So far as the cargo basket.. have you thought about half & half? Half length cargo box/half basket? Only reason i bring it up...
Hope I am not preaching to the choir here.. but what makes me say your going to be happy with the astro is the amount of parts available for them.. almost everything is identical to the safari... and so many were manufactured bone yards are full of them! So cheap to repair. Not to mention very...
perhaps mtbr or pinkbike if you're on there?? ;) I did post up here when I was doing the build last year...also an avid dh biker in the northwest, perhaps at a trailhead!
Ghettobago was a temp name for the first trip out... oregon dmv now recognizes her as SHURPA. :)
My mini sportsmobile... with a mini price tag.. 99 awd astro, full camp conversion that sleeps 2 humans, 2 labs comfortably.. we can do 1-2 weeks pretty comfortable in her only stopping for fuel. 7 gallons onboard water, full kitchen kit, storage etc.
4" overland lift, 32" BFG's were the...
