Locker only works in low range doesn't it?

I engaged 4HLc and pressed the rear lock button. No trickery involved. (edited to correct typos) Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

Locker only works in low range doesn't it?

On my 98 Gen 2.5 I am able to engage the center and rear lockers in 4hi and 4lo. I have only used the rear locker once in 4hi while going down a really muddy road in order to keep my momentum up. I was quite familiar with the road, so I was comfortable keeping a decent rate of speed...

    Are montero's slow?

From what I can tell, he wasn't having problems with the timing sprocket itself, but just the harmonic balancer. Check the sprocket behind the balancer. The keyway can get sloppy, like in my picture, causing timing issues. You can't tell without pulling the sprocket though, because the key is...

    Harmonic balancer, roll pin

Just be careful that you drill it out straight. You don't want any slop in the pin.

    Harmonic balancer, roll pin

BTW, I did it without removing the front engine cover. I pulled my radiator to give me extra room.

    Harmonic balancer, roll pin

I drilled mine out and used a bigger one. I forget what size. Maybe 3/16"? Just make sure it's the correct length. Too long will make the balancer wobbly.

    Are montero's slow?

Check your timing sprocket on the crankshaft. The downside to this, is it is not easy. You have to remove the timing belt. I would almost be willing to bet my rig that you find this: Mine had the exact same symptoms. The keyway on the sprocket got wallowed out, retarding the timing by...

1975 VW Bus Westfalia, built for an Alaska to Argentina Journey

I think it is only Android based. I tried Dash Command today on my way to work, and it seems to be a much nicer app overall. I forgot to close it though, and holy crap it drains the battery.

I have never used Dash Command. I just downloaded it, and will check it out. Have you tried Torque as an OBDII interface app? I use Torque quite regularly, but Dash Command looks a little more polished, at least visually.

Very cool build. I would love to do something like this.

Looking for purchase advice regarding an older Suburban

Ooh 91... My favorite year for them. I had a 91 K5, and since I got rid of it, I have never been able to get rid of the itch to buy another, preferably a Southern vehicle.

What tools do you keep in your Montero, and what do you keep them in?

Agreed. There aren't too many boulder fields here in Michigan. For most wheeling in Michigan a spare tire, recovery strap, and jumper cables will be good enough. A winch is always helpful too. If you are hitting the dunes, on board air would be pretty handy.

What tools do you keep in your Montero, and what do you keep them in?

You could replace the sledge and 2x4 with a decent 5 lb deadblow hammer. The plastic(or rubber) won't mar up your rim, and it eliminates an extra piece of wood floating around.

If you ever head back to Michigan give a heads up. It would be awesome to see that thing in person 👍
