Depending on budget and the asking price I would see both and go from there. The AHC in the LX can be replaced and chances are the 300K LC will need suspension update/upgrade, so that is a wash. I would definitely look at both and consider both.

I would be more concerned with the load there while driving and not when actually sleeping in it. If you think that the side rails would hold, then it is fairly easy and inexpensive to attach some square aluminum or steel bars to the stock side rails with some U brackets.

Given those two choices I would choose the older one. Heck, you can buy two for the price of the newer one :) I test drove two LX 470, a 2004 and a 2002 and honestly did not notice much difference in the performance of the transmission. I ended up getting the 2002 and have been quite happy...
