    TDI Panamericana

So I've not been keeping up on reading the forum this summer, but I just met Rainer and saw his Touareg. He is on his road-tour promoting and recruiting sponsors for his next trip. Nice guy, definitely was a high-budget trip. Had to come here and read up on the details.

The Family Daily Driver ExPo Rig Thread!

I voted for "massive SUV" as we recently bought a Yukon XL (Suburban). Most of the places we go for family camping is not too far off the beaten path, so off-road capability was not as important to me right now. The kids are 5, 3.5 and 1, so hopefully in the future when they are a little older...

Bi-Polar Mental Excercise: Suburban or Grand Cherokee

I have both, currently. A 2004 GC with the 4.0L and a 2006 Yukon XL with the 5.3L. Both 4x4. My wife likes driving the jeep a little better due to its size in urban areas, but the Yukon is also just as nice to drive. I wouldn't worry about the maintenance costs on either of the vehicles you...

Any pop-up truck campers sleep 5 people?

In the past, I've been of the mindset to buy something and keep it for a long time, to get the most benefit out of a purchase. I've had my current truck for over 10 years now... it looks a little aged, but still runs fine. So I've been putting a lot of forethought into a camper setup, but have...

    Fun Topic- Which Spark Plugs?

Hello all - I work for an automotive supplier in gasoline engine management, so I've seen what all goes into determining the OEM plug. From my experience, I would suggest to install the exact same plug that the engine was designed with. Others have already suggested this, and I agree that this...

Any pop-up truck campers sleep 5 people?

All good points... thanks for the discussion. I think my idea is to have a space big enough to SLEEP in bad weather, but my wife's concept might be to LIVE out of the camper. So maybe a truck camper is not quite right to meet both of our needs. I like the pop-out on the side... great idea...

Any pop-up truck campers sleep 5 people?

Thanks for the replies. We currently tent camp, but I'm looking for camper options. I think the truck campers are a bit more rugged than a tow-behind, unless I could get a sweet Austrailian caravan. I sort of came to the same conclusion, even if there was enough sleeping space, it would be...

Any pop-up truck campers sleep 5 people?

Hello - Trying to figure out all my options for a camper for a family of 5. Are there any pop up truck campers that have enough sleeping space? I've seen the shell-only models, and might consider building the interior myself, but would like to see what is on the market. Thanks. :)

    Anybody have a WJ?

I love my WJ... Three car seats are a bit tight in the back seat. The ones we have are hard to install. I would recommend getting the most compact car seats as possible if you need 3 accross.

    Baby Carriers

We have a baby bjorn "sport" which has a bit more support than the regular bjorn (have also used one of those). For around the house/yard, it works great, but we have an REI backpack carrier for any travel/camping. Full metal frame and detachable storage pack. I would deffinitely buy it again.

Towing trailer on beach - Air down trailer also?

Another question along these lines, Is it better to have a dual axle trailer for sand? Does the extra weight and drag negate the effect of a larger foot print? I would be curious to hear from people who have towed both on soft ground like sand. I'm preping an M101 and was expecting to lower...

Using a Hybrid trailer as an onroad/offroad platform?

Good question. I'm also interested to hear opinions on this concept. My wife and I have been shopping for a camper for a while. She wants a solid place to bathe the kids, and I want something with a little "soft-road" capability. This would be a solution that might meet both of those...

    Car seat suggestions

Whichever car seat you choose, buy two when you first get it... They do "expire" but it is quite a long time. I have 3 kids now, and 3 vehicles... I have a couple car seats that are identical, but that model has been discontinued. I like having them the same so you only have to learn to use...

Your experience can help me decide...

Great deal, and maybe a quite good solution for the OP... the AWD Express is only available as a 1/2 ton, and no low range. I have seen t-case swaps to add that if desired.
