Love your truck and how you have it set. If you're going to be traveling solo, there's no reason to drive a much bigger land cruiser. If you can't locate a shell locally, you might want to look into a custom made camper. I know that near me there is a fairly well known custom camper builder...
I love seeing older, relatively stock trucks on here. Therefore my advice would be to not be afraid to keep your truck stock. Get it mechanically solid and use it a little before you worry about upgrades. You said your goals were light trails and camping so I don't think you need 33's...
Good choice. To me any seller that won't provide smog and isn't significantly dropping the price can't be trusted. Take your time, there are a deals out there, especially in the LA area.
So you're the luck one. I saw it on MUD and thought it looked like a great deal. I bet that truck needs nothing, except of course any upgrades you have planned.

The Mercedes OM617 is the new trendy swap to do and for good reason. 4x4labs just started making an adapter to mate it to the W56. There are some fitment issues with the front diff which I'm not totally clear on and a thin electric fan is required as well. If you search OM617 on here or mud...
I'd love to see any stock height trucks, IFS or SA. I'm not interested in lifting my truck much if at all and would even consider a 616 w/ turbo and minimal boost if it would allow for zero lift.
Did you pick up the trekker in Oceanside? I think that I look at this one a while back, but wasn't able to drive it as there was a motorhome blocking it that wouldn't start. I've kinda been kicking myself for not taking a second look and am stoked to see that someone who really values it...
The G series trannies (G54 and G52) came in carburated trucks from 84 to 88 I think. R series came in 3.0 equipped trucks(R150) and 22RET trucks(R151).
