    GEN 1 Montero axles w/LSD

Hello, I have both front and rear complete axles from a 1989 Mitsubishi Montero. Both have LSD however I do not know what the stock gearing is, the stock engine in the vehicle is 3.0L V6 if that helps. They both are in great shape, the only reason i'm selling them is that the Montero is my...

4M40 2.8TD and solid front axle into GEN1 Montero

Update 10/12/14: Front end disassembly Today I disassembled the front end. The front axle and suspension are out. This week I will have the engine and trans out. I will then test mount the 4M40 to see if I will have to cut and move the engine mounts forward. I will most likely have to put in a...

With this project I am already bankrupt and I have not even hit the gas pedal once or moved a US or UK mile! Thanks for the info, always appreciated. I know all about the issue with cracking heads on these engines. I will of course get a pyro meter and keep a close eye on the EGT's. I do plan on...

Stock gears are not too bad to work on or with. If the ring gear runout is within tolerance and not warped it is very easy. same goes for pinion bearing press fit surfaces, if they are ok and within spec they are usually good. The LR coil brackets are new weld-on units. they are sold as a stock...

HA! I wish I could work that fast. This project is going on 2yrs now, I have only decided to start a thread here on the portal now. I know how it goes when I follow a build from someone else and then there is no update for months on end or even a year! I then feel like fiending crackhead waiting...

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it! I don't think that will be a problem since I am using the complete Toyota trans, t-case, driveshafts (front+rear), and axles. Or I may just not understand or am not piecing what you say correctly. If and when I come that roadblock I will search for that.

Thanks for posting! I always like to hear about other peoples experiences with these engines and vehicles. I think they are great engines but like anything else you just have to take care of them and keep them up maintenance wise. I plan on keeping the gearing stock and as of now plan to use...

Front axle almost finished, just need to finish welding the trackbar mount and steering knuckle stops and then a few coats of paint. I reassembled with new hardware, new drilled and slotted brake rotors, new rebuilt calipers, and steel braided brake lines.

Front differential service While the front differential was I serviced it as well. cleaned it up really well. There was some rust externally so I patiently masked off the inside parts blasted the outer casting. Washed it very well rinsing it out and scrubbing multiple times to make sure there...

more work on the front axle. Link brackets welded on The knuckle balls were pitted just a little so I cleaned them up a bit. They still have some pitting but much better in my opinion and nothing much I can do about it. I will just keep an eye on the seals do the necessary routine...

Front axle service and cleanup I could have used the stock front LC80 radius arms, but I didn't. It is very debatable how the stock front radius arms perform off-road and I'm sure they would have been perfectly fine for my intended use, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut.................... well lets just...

It really is, I am very excited to get the thing in! I painted it beige so that any leaks will be easier to detect should one or many appear. I hoping not for a very long time otherwise I will be forced to question my own handy work.

4M40 teardown. The JDM engine/trans combo I bought was claimed to be a low mileage motor. Before I made the purchase I did a lot research on suppliers, cost, and shipping. This took probably the most time but since this was the first time doing this I wanted to make sure that i did it right...

That is interesting. Are you speaking of the main input shaft the one that enters the the torque converter? I measured both the L400 AW30-40LE and the LC80 AW30-43E and they seemed to be identical. I also of course still have the 3.0L V6 6G72 trans thats in my Montero now, I believe it's the...
