Purchase opinions for son's first car

Mine would like to learn manual shift, but right now I don't have one. I have been teaching him the basics of wrenching on the Yukon and Odyssey, and the Protege will be good for that too. I have a couple of dirt bikes and a four wheeler that all require some work too. I finish my master's...

Purchase opinions for son's first car

I would have killed for the GTX. I probably still would... so my parents gave him an Mazda Protege that they no longer wanted. Problem solved for a while anyway, but it creates another problem: I have some extra cash... what to do with it... :D

Purchase opinions for son's first car

I was looking for a Grand Cherokee for his first car, but I came across this. Whatever, I get, I was planning on making it capable for mild trails, and then when he goes off to college, it becomes whatever I want it to be... so technically, it's not really his. :ylsmoke: I don't know a whole lot...

    Classic SUVs?

I thought the frames on those older Burbs were weaker? The 91 and older... compared to the newer ones.

    Classic SUVs?

Good point. I am the same way, except that there is also wife, kids, house maintenance, work, shuttling my son to two hockey teams, boy scouts... plus he will have his license next year so the plan is to get him a daily that will slyly turn into an off roader. He is not going to daily that...

    Classic SUVs?

Did someone say Travelall? Considered looking at this... not in horrible shape. But I won't have time until the master's degree is done. https://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/d/1971-travelall/6227409620.html

94 Ford F700 camper in STL

I live about an hour from there. I should go look at it just for the heck of it... see if I can take it for a spin. :smiley_drive:

    Sweet Econoline

Yeah, the more I thought about it that van won't work. I did just find another 90 Econoline with a mild conversion (no raised roof) for $900 with 15,000 miles on it! But I think for now I will stick with a basic truck, and work towards the van I really want. Thanks for the advice.

My ex-wife can get her own van, so that would only be 4. :sombrero: However, my son is 12 and bigger than some adults. He and his sisters will be tall, so yer right. I wish I had never seen the camper van thread... My bank account is in severe jeopardy.

I had not noticed that sub-forum before but I will check it out. I have 3 kids, not sure we could all sleep in that.

    Sweet Econoline

We had a hockey game near there last night but I talked myself out of seeing it. Most I would be pulling is a quad and a dirt bike or two, maybe the pop up by itself. What really fits my needs in my price range is generally not nearly as nice as this. I have never been inside a camper van...

    Sweet Econoline

Trying to convince myself to not go look at this. Been looking for 4x4 truck/suv for hauling toys and the pop up camper to the dirt park, and maybe some very light trails... but I stumbled upon this and I'm quite enamored... I think 4x4 vans rock, but didn't even bother looking for any cause of...

    potential trooper purchase

I am relatively good with fixing things. Diagnosing problems is not my strong suit, but this would be a 2nd vehicle anyway so fixing it quickly isn't always necessary. I hate to join forums for vehicles I haven't bought but I joined Planet Isuzu so I can snoop around. I think I will look at it...
