I am moving away from a Tent style Trailer.
I owned a Kamparoo weekender, and while it was nice and amazing offroad it lacked a few features I want now that I am getting older. We also camp a lot in inclement weather, and canvas must be aired out to prevent mold. A hard sided is a lot more...
Hey everyone,
I recently sold my Kamparoo Weekender (excellent trailer for off road use) to upgrade to a trailer with a few more amenities.
I have been looking at all kinds from Fibreglass (Bigfoot/Casita/Escape) trailers, to Aframe trailers.
The Fiberglass trailers seem to be a bit expensive...
That video @ 1.10 is about how long it takes me to open it alone, except My roof rack/floor is bolted onto the trailer.
It is very quick and easy.
The big awning+wall is about a 15 minute ordeal.
It also has a surprising amount of storage. My bedding/pillows/kitchen stuff/utensils/propane...
If you are a fit guy, you can open/close it easily without the hand crank.
Without the hand crank I can open it and have it set up in 2 minutes or less.
Closing you need to ensure the canvas is tucked inside so it's about 5 minutes with 1 person. 2-3 with 2 people, maybe less.

Looking to upgrade to a larger trailer so I am selling my 2004 Kamparoo Weekender.
Kamparoo's are built in Australia and designed for off road use. They have an importer in Alberta and retail for $9,000 with all the options.
These are a very...
Also, the 4th gen does NOT have A-trac like the FJ cruiser or Tacoma off-road.
They have a center locking diff and regular traction control.
It sounds like you are not a hardcore wheeler, so you will be fine in either truck.
If you are adding a small lift, I would hands down pick a 4th. You...
No need for a new truck.
Much of the Tacoma's low payload comes from the horrible stock leaf springs. Add airbags or a new set of leafs (OME Dakar, AllPro Expo) and you will easily be able to handle the weight.
Quite a few guy's here run the same setup, check out the "pop-up camper" section...
I owned a 99 with rear elocker and a 2004 V8 sr5.
I will say the 3rd gen is great offroad with plenty of ground clearance and way more wheel travel.
The 4th gen lacks clearance and travel.
The 4th is by farrrr a nicer on road truck, and I would easily buy another 4th gen over another 3rd.
That is the best part above the 4.7L. I have yet to see anyone say anything other than it was one of their favorite engines to drive. The 4.0L is reliable and has some power, but just doesn't feel as powerful and refined as the 4.7.
