    Unimog U20 camper

I love the idea of the de mountable body-I've been thinking of doing this with my637 ex army ambo- could use it as a tray when not travelling, that way I could sell my current ute-one less rego and one less insurance, servicing etc.

    Tyres for FG637

Hey Gareth, how's the mods going with your FG, I'm keen on seeing your ideas for an inside fitout, due to work and other commitments mines been on hold, and not likely to get much done this side of Christmas. Stu, I've decided not to use that tandem trailer for general use, it's just too heavy...

    We 'Canter'ed to the tip.

Hey Aussie Iron, The truck is looking good, I'm hoping to get to the tip of Oz soon as well. Do you have any pics of how you routed the winch cable from the rear to the front of the truck? My winch is front mounted, love to be able to use it backwards as well. How about a few more pics of your...

    Tyres for FG637

Hi all, sorry to get off the original thread re tyres. I haven't been able to find written advice re the status of on road inspections for heavy vehicles, however a call to vicroads suggested that any vehicle of 5500kg or greater is considered a heavy vehicle and must stop at open heavy vehicle...

    Tyres for FG637

Hi, I'm currently investigating de-rating my ex Army ambo to 4.5t, I'll let you know how I go. Rego on mine as a heavy vehicle is $1100 pa. And I believe at 5500kg GVM I have to stop at open heavy vehicle inspection points, what I don't know is if I'm required to carry and fill out a log book?

Hi Alan, I went for the Hankook Dynapro Mud Terrain in 37x12.5R17LT, they are 129Q, 10ply sidewalls and rated for 1850kg per tyre. I'm not affiliated in any way with Kym Bolton and have never actually met him, but I must say he was a pleasure to deal with regarding the purchase of his rims.

    New Guy

Hi all, finally got around to getting some pics, havent done much but fitted 2 side windows, fixed the rear body aircon and fitted a set of Kym Bolton's super single rims and Hankook tyres. Will be heading of on a 2 week trip soon for some fishing and R&R so will give some feed back re the tyres...

    New Guy

Hi Gareth, I've fitted some windows, and done some other minor work to it, I have some pics of the internal framing and how we got around that, the windows make a huge difference to the comfort and airflow. Haven't had a chance to weight it yet though. I'm away for a few more days will post some...

    New Guy

Hi Guys, Next plans are to cut some windows into the sides and fit some water tanks underneath. I also hope to fit some external storage within the body for food and cooking utensils, having to go in the truck to get things all the time is a pain! Cutting holes in the body is a bit more complex...

    New Guy

Well, my Son and I couldn't wait to complete our camper, so we packed it up and headed off for 10 days to some of the Victorian High Country to have a much needed break. Prior to leaving we brought a Primus 3 way fridge and had it wired for 12 volt operation, put a generator on a slide and had a...

    New Guy

Hi John, Can't tell who made the bull bar, but seems well made and heavy duty. The winch is a 15000lb Superwinch, by the look of it i'd think it might be underrated? Cant see any oil cooler, but the hydraulic tank holds about 55 litres of oil, so i'd think unless extreme winching there would not...

Yes, intending on it staying in camo-so much so I'm painting up a matching trailer!

    FGs for sale

It's the same chassis, but the back on this is a workshop set up, welder, compressor etc. It has 2 side doors. Mine is an ambulance, not sure which is a better camper option, but the ambo's seem to be better sealed and aircon in the back body will be welcome! I reckon those 38's would look good...
