FWC Hawk - Question on Hydraulic Lift Struts

There is a long thread over on Wander the West about "Roof lifter helper shock thingies". I think it is about 30 pages or more long. Lots of good pix and discussion. Just remember if you go to 90 lb springs, you have to overcome that to get the roof back down. I put 4 lifters on my old (1977 FWC...

What do you store your camper on?

FYI: Both the Harbor Freight trailers are on sale this month. I am getting the 1190 lb one for my old FWC.

What do you store your camper on?

Hopeless: Thanks for the info and reply. I am looking at some of the smaller trailers and considering the HF 1200 lb. trailer for my FWC. Thanks again.

What do you store your camper on?

Hopeless: Is that the Harbor Freight 1200 lb capacity trailer? I have been thinking about the same trailer. I need to unload on a gravel driveway, and then find some way to get my camper into the garage. How does it work for you?

    FWC Restoration

I think the only way to come out on this project is to do the work yourself. I called FWC and ATC and a new sideliner was over $700.00. Don't know what you need for the top, but that has to be expensive. If it is just small leaks, the Rustoleum Stop Leak works well. My garage door hardware tore...

I Bought This 8' Pop-up Yesterday - Hopefully a Diamond in the Rough

Flysar: Where did you get the tent canvas? Also, did you purchase windows? I have an old 4 Wheel camper that I need to replace the sideliner on. The canvas may work better for me for the same reasons you mention plus the fact that a replacement sideliner costs around $700.00. Thanks MNTraveler

Attaching FWC Eagle to Truck - Torquelifts?

35XJ: Did you see my PM? Please see the PM and send me a picture (or 3) of your tie-down system. Better yet, since there is some interest, if you can, please post your pictures. Thanks, MNtraveler

Attaching FWC Eagle to Truck - Torquelifts?

XJ35: Any chance you can post a picture of your set up? I am trying to come up with a plan to mount my 1977 Grandby to my 2011 Ram. Thanks

How to install and remove a truck camper without jacks?

My rental center had a set of the cable jacks (but used straps instead). Very heavy duty. The guys didn't know they had them. Cost was $25.00 for 1/2 day. Might be an option for you for the short term.

How could I convert from bottom bracket style jack to corner mounted jacks?

Nope. Don't weld aluminum. I used an assortment of corner brackets and sheet metal screws to fix the broken welds as shown over at WTW in some of the build (rescue?) threads. It seems to work as I took the camper from MN to WY this past fall and toured around the Thunder Basin Nat'l Grasslands...

How could I convert from bottom bracket style jack to corner mounted jacks?

Pods: I am only trying to accomplish on and off loading of the camper. I do not intend to use it in a stand alone fashion. My concern is that the framing on these older FWC's is 1x aluminum tubing. The newer ones on the FWC website seem to use 1x2 or better in the corners. Thanks for your help.

How could I convert from bottom bracket style jack to corner mounted jacks?

Thanks Pods! I have my camper apart (interior stripped) and finished the exterior last fall. I inspected and fixed all broken welds. Given that all framing is 1x, I wonder what can be done to beef up the corner framing?

How could I convert from bottom bracket style jack to corner mounted jacks?

Has anyone converted an older (mid 70's ish) Four Wheel Camper from the bottom mount jacks to the newer corner jacks? Is there enough bracing to handle the stress in the corners? I really don't like the tri pod set up I have now. Thanks

Replacing the vinyl on a FWC

Lost me too. Why don't you own one now? On my VERY old Grandby (Circa 1975-78) it looks to be a tedious but relatively straightforward job, probably made easier if a helper is there. I am going to do mine either over the winter or next spring. Call the guys at ATC for a better price if you are...

    Reinforcing camper tie down points??

Any pix of the "captured spring" units? Thinking about something similar for my 4 Wheel camper. Thanks MNTraveler

    Camper confusion

Couple a thoughts..... 1. Many campgrounds do not allow you to off load a pickup camper and use it separate from the truck. 2. For quick load and off load, look at Stablelift. I don't have one, but am thinking about it. MnTraveler.

    My latest project...

Thanks Prybry! I keep looking for a Pickupper, but they are scarce! I am still looking for some plans or something to copy for a similar unit. Not hearing anything to the contrary, I ordered some of the EBAY plans. Very nice unit but I doubt I am that accomplished as a carpenter. I also have...
