GMC Savana AWD De-Conversion (Dodge Ram replacement)

I cranked my Gamiviti towers down tight, they cut thru the putty to seat on the metal gutters. I then used a bit of clear silicone to seal the Gamiviti/putty seat. The crossbars I used were ordered to size 2"x1" 80/20 bars, I ordered the feet and measured before ordering the 80/20 bars.

goin' to california, with an aching in my heart, need advice

I didn't read all the replies... travel into Mexico once a year for a month or so, NEVER once an issue. All checkpoints, policeman, stops at markets in little towns - no issues. Van camp in wilderness, beaches, and camp/RV parks, nothing but accommodating locals - still Facebook buddies with...

GMC Savana AWD De-Conversion (Dodge Ram replacement)

hey, the springs in the back provided about 3 inches of lift, the keys in the front about 2.5 inches. About 15,000 miles since the install & all is well, great to have the clearance for trailhead access and forest/BLM road access. Best $1k spent on the van...

    Blankets: 12 volt heated style

I have a double-bed size electric mattress topper in the van, 110v running on a 600w xantrex prowatt inverter. Set on 3-4 of 8 max setting, draws less than 25 amp-hours in 6-8 hours. Makes a huge difference... no problem running it and a fridge and lights and device chargers and stereo for 2-4...

    Chevy Express Conversion Seats

I doubt conversion van seats will plug into your factory passenger van. Conversion companies ordered cargo-upfitter packages without seats - driver cardboard stool for transport - every one I've seen use non-OEM bolts/brackets that require 4 thru-body holes to be drilled after removal of OEM...

    Installing Back up camera

Maybe the camera would mount to the top/rear of the stock 3rd brake light? Then wires could run into the van along with the power wires for the light - which is how mine is ran into the van.

    Installing Back up camera

You need to wire the camera to the monitor up front anyway, so, I found it easier to tap into the reverse wire in the harness behind the side panel directly below the hood release handle. This allowed me to also wire power thru a relay to a dash switch that allows turning the camera on without...

GMC Savana AWD De-Conversion (Dodge Ram replacement)

I believe so, I don't recall the price. I used a 5" monitor, also sourced from EBay, mounted above rearview mirror. Day and night- vision clarity are great. Camera can click thru a number of angles.

    GMC 1500 AWD Van

When mounting the 22-907 springs, I took one of the takeoff u-bolts to a local spring shop - they made 4 to match, 1.5" longer if I remember.

    GMC 1500 AWD Van

Hey, did you ever add the transmission cooler from the 3/4-1 ton van? I'm considering... pretty warm on mountain passes and forest (desert) roads in the summer. OM bolt-in option would be great.

GM fullsize AWD Van Info thread

yep, 3.73's are 'just' adequate for the mountains (8000-12000 ft hwys). With 32" tires I would love 4.10's... or, a low speed transfer case. (Not a rockcrawler, but occasional steep, loose hills), but G80 and 3.73's work on forest roads.... but, your forest roads may vary, mine are 'don't...

Check out these threads for information on 3/4 springs: The pioneer: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/98904-GMC-1500-AWD-Van/page5 And, my own... I did change out the rear shocks for the 3/4 ton van Bilsteins...

GMC Savana AWD De-Conversion (Dodge Ram replacement)

Word. Purchased mine from original owner, garage-kept, dealer maintenance records, and 5k/year mileage. Easy to strip plywood and questionable wiring, etc. I wouldn't even consider a fleet service vehicle compared to conversion van on the used market... just the rear AC and paneling would be 5-6...

GMC Savana AWD De-Conversion (Dodge Ram replacement)

Conversion vans are great... a few quick mods & they are usable campers while you work out additional changes... fly, buy, and drive camptrip. Plus they are more plush than plumber cargo vans, easy to find used having 1 owner and low mileage, and cheap vs. trucks/suv in the CO market.

GMC Savana AWD De-Conversion (Dodge Ram replacement)

Thanks! Van life is great, the AWD GM is definitely plush vs. my past Aerostar, vw's, Dodge, etc. Just goes about things without wheel spin.

GMC Savana AWD De-Conversion (Dodge Ram replacement)

Gamiviti roof rack towers Roof rack in progress - waiting on some 80/20 bits to finish mounting the 2nd solar panel, side rails to connect across the 3 towers, etc. Gamiviti 30/60 rain gutter towers - made right here in Colorado - awesome fit and finish, very strong, great service, etc. I...

GMC Savana AWD De-Conversion (Dodge Ram replacement)

Ha! I think the drivetrain would explode... pretty heavy without slabs of granite. Love to have selectable transfer case with AWD & Lo-range.

GMC Savana AWD De-Conversion (Dodge Ram replacement)

The conversion van seat folds into a bed quickly with the push of a button. Having the ability to buckle 4-5 adults is nice to have at times, and couch mode on day trips is important for the extra space in the middle of the van & transporting bikes inside at the rear. The bad: the bed is not...
