Oh boy, taking this engine out this time was with record time despite the less than desirable circumstances! It's been quite snowy up here in the WV mountains. Waited for it all to melt and let the ground dry out a bit. Finally got a nice day to take the engine out! But we're lifting 1000...

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

Living in the van while stationary is going pretty well. Been working and saving money and just trying to enjoy life while I got it. Yes, many things are broken. But, we still maintain our priorities. Staying in one place without driving and charging the batteries with the alternator has...

I'm super paranoid about the fridge now. Like I do not want to leave it for weeks at a time with stuff in it. But yes, very impressed that the smells are gone. I literally almost gave up and threw a molotov cocktail into the thing when I first opened up the van to the chicken fiasco. Haha, no...

Yay for an update! Been settling into the new home location lately. Did some more cleaning and fully moved back into the van. Finished cleaning and scrubbing. Opened every compartment. Placed an ozone generator pack into the living space and closed it up for 24 hours. These things create...

I would need new engine mounts, different transmission, adapters, new driveshaft, might need to regear the axle. This is a 10k lb brick, so mpg would definitely be single digits. And this is my home. I have nowhere else to go...

Yes it was a big rescue. I have never been that deep before. Not going back. The van is stuck near Clarksburg, WV. Nothing could be worse than the chicken plasma. Maybe a fire would be worse, but not much else compares. I'll keep cleaning it.

I will continue the story I was trying to tell a month ago before I got sidetracked to the other side of the world. I really don't want to relive this horror, but here you go. In the rush to drop the van off at my friends house in WV and continue on our journey to AL for some training classes...

He is doing much better. It took almost 2 weeks for him to reach the surface. And I'm at the point where I think I will just do engine swap where it is. I like being able to stop!

Wait, they cost how much?!? I'm just going to swap the engine in the grass where it sits, haha.

This rig weighs 10k lbs. I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Also, what is a brake buddy?

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

Sorry everyone. I had to drop everything and fly to Turkey to rescue a friend from deep down in a cave. Anyway, I liked the idea about flat towing for about 30 seconds. The thought of not having brakes behind me on something so big scares me. Anyone can get it going, but stopping is kinda what...

It's all good. I can make money. What I need right now is a way to tow the van from WV over to KY where I have an adequate place to do the engine swap. Also need a good Cummins builder to fix my woes. Crazy about those pixels. I can fit a lot of pixels on the side of this van... I'm not sure...

I don't know about that GoFundMe stuff. I'm not one to need handouts. I always feel that fundraiser stuff should go towards actual misfortune, like losing everything in a house fire, or having a child develop cancer. This is minor compared to what others suffer through everyday. I just need to...

Find me someone that can take all these junk engines and build me something reliable! I've contemplated ditching it, but I'm out of money and live in it now! Haha, that's the current state, but I don't own the land unfortunately. I just have bad luck with these junkyard engines. I'm the...

Oh boy. It's been a depressing time lately. It appears the van does need an exorcism. Was driving through the mountains of West Virginia with my copilot lady when all of a sudden the van shot all its oil out the exhaust and lost power. Pulled over, assessed, filled back with oil, limped off the...

Great news! Got everything back together, filled all the fluids up, and what do you know? She started right up! Only had one leak. Me being a dumby put the coolant thermostat seal in backwards. Easy fix, just had to remove a bunch of stuff and flip the seal around. But boy was I ever nervous...

We got really good at engine swaps! Can get the engine from the floor in the garage and bolted onto the engine mounts in about 20 minutes! But there are always things to slow you down! Snapped a bolt in the cylinder head and had to remove a bunch of stuff, heat it up with the torch after...

Been working nonstop. Got lots of stuff done lately. This rig will be back on the road soon... This year has been the year of head gaskets. Took the Cummins cylinder head from the van, both cylinder heads from the old GM military truck, and both exhaust manifolds for the van to the machine...

Life is okay. Everything is broken but small battles are won everyday. Can't drive the van anywhere, but friends can drive to the van! Also, the hot tub is still running great. The scenery is getting old though. Speaking of hot tubs, the framework for the hot tub walls are getting really...

It is a very handy tool. Always wanted one, but golly they are pricey. The girlfriend that gave me it was the one with the Phd.
