Jeep XJ Pop Top Camper Build

How are your DIY lizard skin products holding up? Was the white product you sprayed on the interior also a 1:1 with enamel paint or another product? I’ve been following your build as a lurker for several years now and it has inspired me to start on my own Cherokee camper! Hoping for a bit more...

    Circuit Breaker Sizing for Winches

My reason to put a breaker or physical disconnect in the circuit is to prevent an electrical fire in the event of a short due to damaged insulation. This can happen due to wearing against a sharp edge or if the wire is pinched in the event of a collision. I've seen a TJ burn to the ground after...

    Circuit Breaker Sizing for Winches

Thanks Everyone, Especially Comeup Winches! I've decided to go with a Superwinch Tigershark instead of my existing harbor freight junk. It's max amp draw is only 320 so it should be less taxing on the electrical system and easier to breaker.

    Circuit Breaker Sizing for Winches

I'm going to be mounting a harbor freight 12k winch on my XJ and I'm a bit confused regarding circuit protection. The stock positive lead includes a block of three 50 amp self resetting breakers, I want to go to a bussman marine style breaker that can be manually disengaged. Should I again go...

Finding Premium (high octane) Gasoline in Remote Areas

Thanks for the input Dan! Have you had any trouble in the JK? Not that they are particularly picky, but I'm assuming they won't run on really bad fuel.

Finding Premium (high octane) Gasoline in Remote Areas

I would love to have a small Isuzu diesel, but it would be very expensive to convert in anything but a junkyard motor. There's the cost of the engine, rebuilding the engine, rebuilding the injection pump and turbo, plumbing it all, putting a transmission behind it, adapting to a transfer case...

Finding Premium (high octane) Gasoline in Remote Areas

And it is very easy to pull timing out of it, that kind of slipped my mind. It will run like crap, but it will still run, and I can always give it more timing once I have more good gas.

Finding Premium (high octane) Gasoline in Remote Areas

As you said, static compression isn't the whole story. But the current cam isn't very aggressive so I suspect it will still be pretty high. That's easy enough to change though. "You mean I HAVE to put in a bigger cam and make more power? Darn!" How aggressive is the cam in your 351? And yes...

Finding Premium (high octane) Gasoline in Remote Areas

As I get further into my Wagoneer build I've started rebuilding the new engine. Just a basic AMC 401 with ported stock heads, intake, etc... Should put out somewhere around 400hp and torque figures in the low 500's. Plenty for moving around 5k pounds of jeep. But I've bumped the compression up...

How much range should you build into an expedition vehicle?

Thanks Tom! I hope I will get to do it all eventually. Trying to take as many classes as I can that will help me make enough money seasonally, or alternatively be able to work in these remote areas. It's alot easier to make time to explore a place when it's your back yard.

How much range should you build into an expedition vehicle?

Well thanks guys! That settles it. Mo range is mo better. And given the platform will carry the weight fine and the spare tire hole will be empty anyway with the advent of larger tires I no longer see any down sides.

How much range should you build into an expedition vehicle?

Weight is definitely a concern, however the 30 gallon tank would be replacing the OE 20 gallon tank so really I'm only adding around 220 lbs. Well within the capacity of a big ol wagon. That's only the weight of one friend! As far as where I want to go... I want to go every where. Prudhoe bay...

How much range should you build into an expedition vehicle?

Hey guys, I'm building a 1990 Grand Wagoneer as a back country travel platform as well as a road trip vehicle. I don't want to get too far into the nitty gritty, I just have a few basic questions. How much range did you build into your expedition vehicle and why? Is there such thing as too...
