Upcountry's 07' Tacoma - Weekend Warrior Build - Work In Progress

Wow, stuffing the rear bumper on that uphill. How do you like the dimensions of the 2nd gen Tacos? I have a '09 dbl. cab as well, while there's a lot of interior space, I feel the overall dimensions hinder the trucks off road abilities. I am seriously considering replacing it with a 1st gen dbl cab.

    Bed Dimensions

My '91 toyota ex.cab measures 73-3/8" X 57-1/4", inside to inside/top rail. You might want to check the pre '89 pickups. Tacos and t-100's will definitely be larger.

    My hilux's next 20 years

Howzit Hawaiian, Haha, thats a good Waipio story. I'm embarassed to admit to never having been down there, even though I'm born and raised Big Isle boy. Its definitely on my to do list. Wanna check out the fishing action, heard some mean stories about the place. I'll post more local pics as I...

    My hilux's next 20 years

A little needed maintenance. Wow, it's been awhile. The gears and locker have been great, I don't even have to use the 4wd at times. My tailpipe, which was rusted out, practically broke in two on a recent outing. I lucky it didn't fall off at high speed. I bent a replacement using 2"...

Has anyone here "Defeated the ADD System" on a Toyota?

I didn't read the whole link you listed. But I do know parts are interchangable between ADD and non-ADD. Find non-ADD parts and swap em out. http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/#front

What 5spd trans is behind the 3RZ-FE 2.7 Tacoma?

Yes, the bellhousing from a 2tr will bolt up to the 3rz and vice-a-versa. MarlinCrawler used to produce a bellhousing to bolt an R-series tranny to the 3rz up until it was discovered that you could use the 2tr bellhousing.

    2007 - 2011 Best Year question

'09-'10 with auto tranny were subject to the delayed shifting problem. Can be corrected some what through a tsb-covered reprogram. I don't know if 2011 models were affected as well. Don't bother with the "sport-package" unless you absolutely must have the non-functioning hood scoop. I own an...

Are your expedition/overland vehicles auto, or stick?

I used to be "anti-auto" until buying a '09 Tacoma double-cab, I believe the 5-speed was not an option on the d-cab. The auto takes the fun out of driving on the street, but makes wheeling a lot easier. There's more control when going over obstacles and no more stalling or playing with the...

    My hilux's next 20 years

Labor Day 2011 camping trip I took my nephew camping with his Boy Scouts troop over the long weekend. The location is Kahuku beach, next to South Point on the Big Island of Hawaii. I didn't get any "wheeling" pics because there were about ten vehicles in a row and I was in the middle. Didn't...

Simple, good looking and probably lighter than most flatbed designs. I like it.

    ADVICE plz !

I believe the non turbo jz's used the r154 trannys. So if you got one of those bellhousings you could bolt it to a r150 4x4 tranny and transfer case. Now whether they used push or pull type clutch system, I do not know. But it must be compatible because this is a somewhat common swap. Some...

    My hilux's next 20 years

Took the truck to a local fishing spot to test out the locker and gears. Sorry for the dark pictures, was under the tree canopy at the time. The locker works great and the 5.29's really slow the truck down to almost a "crawl". Overall I'm very pleased with the results. If only I had caught...

    My hilux's next 20 years

I tried to bleed the brakes early today, in hopes of taking a 4wd test drive later. But I wasn't getting any fluid at the rear brakes. I had fluid at the proportioning valve, but not at the brakes. I removed the valve and tried blowing compressed air through the ports. Air could pass between...

    My hilux's next 20 years

I took some time off to work on my truck, need to get it "trail-worthy" for the Labor Day weekend. Started with new leaf spring bushings. The old ones were really chewed up. Replaced brake rotors and calipers. Since I was this deep, I took on the CV axles as well. Then a package arrived...
