BajaRack's FJ Roof Rack - Review

It sounds like a fantastic rack and they offer one specifically for Roof Tents now. I am thinking that is the way I will go, Sergio seems like a great guy! Todd

    RTT Tent cover deterioration

I would imagine that ARB has new straps that you can purchase, otherwise try the new Mombasa straps as they should work fine and are UV stabilized. They are fairly inexpensive and designed for the tent. About twice the thickness of the original straps with powder coated D rings.

I always look forward to his posts to see the progress. It is great to see the decisions made and the buildup of the truck over time. Keep it up Louis!

    RTT why so much $$$$

Hi Gier, It can be done. I'd love to see your finished product. My father did this in the 70's with a wood platform, on our little datsun pickup, that folded out to reveal a ground tent that was set up on top of the truck. Maybe that is why I am so giddy about RTT's. I tried the make it...

    Jerry can problems...

Have you considered a supersiphon? https://www.expeditionexchange.com/supersiphon/ I love mine and if the can is mounted a bit higher than the vehicles fuel tank, you don;t even need to remove it. Well worth the $13 for the siphon and extension. Drop it in, wiggle it, and enjoy a cigar...

Need a cheap trash management idea

I use a plastic Sportsmans box (waterproof and similar to a plastic ammo can) so that I keep odors inside the truck down. I try not to have too much trash, and always keep it stowed where I can get to it quickly to dump at the gas station. It actually holds quite a bit and your boot fits...

    Recommend a fun .22 Rifle

I love the .22 round, and the Ruger 10/22 after growing up with it. I think the .22 is great for training on accuracy, trigger control, and not fearing the pop affecting the tendancy to jerk. And it is just so much fun and cheap. The rifle and aftermarket parts are dirt cheap, especially for...

do you carry a gun ?

I carry a Kahr PM9 but sometimes a Glock27. Depending on where I am going, sometimes I have snakeshot in the chambered round, and defensive rounds in the stack (though I know it is somewhat of a gamble). With the glock I keep a mag with snakeshot rounds handy if I am working on the trail at a...

    Is a CDL a must?

Glad you posed the question Shawna! I have been thinking about this for the last 2 days wondering why it would be a requirement as the Borg Viscous unit should provide enough power distribution to make it worthwhile... Can't wait to see the input... It will be a good education for me. Todd

RTT mounting, front or rear opening?

Sideways is great. The challenge is that if the rig has a basket, and the outside dimensions are wider than 45 inches, you may need crossbars on the basket. Doing sideways mounts on regular crossbars are easy. On a Disco with an SD rack, you may need to configure something to lift the tent...

RTT mounting, front or rear opening?

I've done all 3 mounting methods and like the look of it over the front and the spare space for storage and a platform for putting shoes on or making coffee being very nice. It also makes it easy to pack up as you can crawl onto the platform and tuck in the tent from being up there. However...

    Mombasa/ARB/Other RTT question (s)

Yep, Those straps are to help youngsters or folks needing assistance something to grab onto to as they climb into the tent. themselves into the tent. I tuck the foot of my mummy bag under them to keep them from bunching when I close the tent. There are 4 black rings with Tan straps around the...
