Educate me on Roof Racks for RTT

The RTT’s are pretty adaptable. I mounted mine to an SD style rack (which has side rails) on top of my D2. Because it was on the side rails it was a bit higher and I had to buy the short ladder extension that is about a foot and a half or two feet long. As for getting five people into a RTT...

    2004 Discovery repair advice needed

The hose connects to the metal tube on passenger side that basically just Tee’s into the longer one behind the plenum which then connects to the valves on each side. Make sure the little vacuum lines that run from the control solenoid to each valve are hooked up and not broken. It’s not all that...

Please talk me out of my irrational desire for a Disco

I've had kind of a different experience. We bought our ‘01 D2 in 2007 with 50k miles on it. It was in excellent condition at the time and over the following 10 years and 100k miles it has never left me stranded and always made it home. I had the usual throttle body heater leaks (finally...

VIDEO LAND ROVERS EXPEDITION TO THE BALKANS

Great video, I enjoyed it very much. I can see a lot of effort went into recording and composing it. As for the negative comments - where is that coming from? Why? I don't get it at all. That guy has some real issues.

Help needed!! Disco II Brake system

You could try borrow a 3 Amigos reset module or, if there are no current existing faults I believe the 3 Amigos will go off on their own after a number of cycles.

Where should I put dual jerry cans on the roof rack?

Voyager makes a good rack, same style as old UK made Safety Devices rack. I agree it looks ridiculous but that starts when you mount a roof top tent up there which honestly, I was not completely sold on but it sure was nice out on the trail especially late afternoon when it was hot and all the...

Where should I put dual jerry cans on the roof rack?

White Rim Trail was a 100 mile loop but because the Green River was flooded at the western end it was 200 miles out and back plus 60 miles round trip from trailhead to nearest fuel so regardless of how it looked it worked.

Where should I put dual jerry cans on the roof rack?

It seems there are a lot of people that are 100% against putting anything on the roof and I think alot of that is based on perception rather than experience. I originally bought a Voyager rack (US built SD clone) simply because I thought they looked cool but after installing it I figured I may...

what do I need to know about 2002 discovery se

I bought a 2001 SE7 ten years ago that had 50,000 miles on it that now has 149,000. Had all of the usual stuff - throttle body heater leak, head gasket leak, rear air bags leak, ACE banjo fitting leak, front drive shaft rebuild and 3 amigos. All of them are fixable, did all the work myself other...

Where should I put dual jerry cans on the roof rack?

I mounted mine right front and made a skinny ladder that mounts to the rack to use when filling them. As mentioned earlier you're not going to be lifting full Jerry cans up there in fact most of the time they are going to be empty. You're only going to put fuel in them when you are going on a...

    Disco 2 - first 6 months update

A couple of wild guesses here but it sounds as if it's a possibility that the "Audi mechanic" may have reused the head bolts when he did the gaskets which is something you can't do since they are torque to yield type bolts. When you did the 3 Amigos fix did you do the PCB bypass or did you...

    My Disco II Build

One of the last tools I bought was a vacuum bleeder. It sucks all of the air out of the system after which you can check for leaks by seeing if it holds. Then you stick the inlet hose into your jug of new coolant, open the valve and it sucks it in with no air. Very easy to use with no mess. It...

    My Disco II Build

You're probably right about 210 for the fan I'm going on memory. I went through all of this last year coming back from my Utah expedition when my truck began overheating every time I tried to climb a hill. I tried new fan, thermostat, pressure cap, radiator and water pump to no avail. I ended up...

    My Disco II Build

There is a lot of controversy and misinformation out there concerning D2 coolant temps and frankly I think some people freak out over it unnecessarily. Consider for one thing that at the designed system pressure the boiling point of a 50/50 coolant mix is 260 deg F. The electric fan does not...

    Disco 2 roof rack

I mounted a RTT on mine but I did have to add the short ladder extension. Also my rack is the low profile version.

    Disco 2 roof rack

Or a Voyager, clone of SD rack. None of them come apart and all of them are good racks.

    My Disco II Build

I tested/cleaned all my injectors by manually pressurizing with a hypodermic plunger filled with carb cleaner. Apply 12 volts and observe the spray pattern. The problem with the Bosch engine is you can't even get to the injectors without pulling the plenum off so it's a major pita. I never...

    My Disco II Build

IMO the 4.6 with flanged liner mod and other upgrades is a good motor with the only downside being the fuel consumption. They are silky smooth and generally do not leak or burn oil. I have had good experiences with mine.

Thoughts? 2000 Land Rover Discovery II - new engine, lifted. - $7500

The receipt shows $5k for a 4.6 short block which could possibly be (should have been) one with flanged liner mod so that is more than just new head gaskets. I just priced out a complete build and it comes out to around six grand doing all the labor myself (the liner mod itself is $1500) All of...

Thoughts? 2000 Land Rover Discovery II - new engine, lifted. - $7500

These are good trucks if everything is properly sorted. The 4.6 is a nice upgrade. I have a nearly identical 2001 that I've put over 100,000 miles on over the past ten years but I've invested in it with engine, general maintenance and such. Yes you can find cheap D2's all day long and buying any...
