    Thinking about a canoe.

used canoes for years...sold one in college. wanted another but got sit on top kayaks due to stories of stability, shallow draft, and able to do anything a canoe can. I bought another canoe last year...a slighly used Bell Northwind 16.5 in Royalex. I also looked at the Nova Craft Uncle Bob as...

    UZJ100 longevity???

I went from an FJ60 to a UZJ100...mine is 2000 LX470 that had 132k on odometer when bought...all service records, recent tb and wp....now has 160k on it after 18months. I have put on tires, bumpers, lights, etc...and is a very well made vehicle. There are issues with the 100 series depending...

    LX getting it done

Right now just the factory skids so I had to be careful with wheel placement, descents, and know where my rear diff was going to cross at all times...but was used to doing that in my FJC and my FJ60 as well...with or without skids I am always very careful and follow the mantra of trying for NO...

    LX getting it done

Took my nearly stock LX on some trails in North Carolina to test it out compared to my 84 FJ60 that had been in family for 26 years...and I was pleasantly surprised. Only added tires and sliders...more to come later but it was very capable and only had a few light scrapes and such encountered...

Tint Your Expedition Vehicle Or Not?

I tint everything....usually 15-20% ...not only for security but also to cut down on greenhouse effect...plus the sun is just brutal during summer here in Charleston so keeps the AC from working so hard in FJ60. Will be getting my LX tinted as well...very soon.

    Post your tents

I bought a Mountain Hardware Lightpath 3 (3 season) tent last year...so this is my second season. It is very easy to put up...can use just the footprint and fly for lightweight camping...or full tent for regular camping. Tent is mostly netting so very good ventilation...vestibule has two...

Is this jerry can any good?

there are many fine NATO cans available through Cheaper than Dirt, Sportsmans Guide and others online....pictures you showed are for toys but thinking you knew that already. I have both Blitz cans and Wedco.... I used the Blitz cans (2 fuel, 1 water) mounted on my roof rack on overland trip...

    Premium gas for a 100

everything says PREMIUM but just like in my FJC....that is for optimal performance. I live in Charleston and over the last week or so of extremely high temps I ran a tank of midgrade....good mileage, no pinging even when accelerating on interstate with air conditioner cranked to cool down the...

    Hydroplaning KM2s

Used to be terrible here around Charleston growing up as they used to mix oyster shell aggregate in with asphalt for longevity. The only problem was that after a few days of extreme heat the oils in shells would leech out into asphalt... So the first afternoon thundershower all the oil would...

    Hydroplaning KM2s

i had 33x10.5x15s on my FJ60 for almost a year....and never hydroplaned at regular highway speeds even in torrential downpours here in South Carolina....I always felt the lugs were far enough apart as to not trap water and hydroplane but maybe my tall-skinny setup made the different where it...

Good 4 man tents? Wife doesn't like the RTT

during winter wife and I use Mountain Hardware 3 person...smaller but warms up faster. Wife wants a taller Mountain Hardware so she can sit up at least to dress as she does not want a RTT either. Good luck.

    Uwharrie,NC Camping/Wheeling Advice

Our club goes up a few times a year...we are going in July if you and your friend want to camp and ride with us since it is your first time. The trails are all different levels of challenge and most have GO AROUNDS for the tricky spots....and erosion and weather will dictate how hard the hard...

Overland tires that don't weigh a ton?

I think I mentioned it before...you typically dont get lighter weight and strength/durability in the same package. The Goodyear Kevlar MTR is the only exception I know about. Increase the number of plys in footprint and sidewalls.....weight increases significantly. Increase load bearing from...

    Do NOT Recommend

    New WEDCO 20 Liter (non-CARB)

I got one by mistake from Garret Wade one time but not seen them on their website lately. I bought my last 4 20L Wedco non-CARB cans from the local Briggs and Stratton dealer... I also bought 4 Blitz non-CARB cans from Northern Tool and used them on cross country run for 10 days up to over...

Too much tire on my LC100?

I ran Nitto Terra Grapplers on my FJC...on highway ran at 42psi...offroad ran at 18psi...the E rated sidewall is very stiff and heavy but they are bullet proof on trails with rocks and sharp staubs that love to puncture lesser tires. I gladly gave up a little softness of ride to keep from...
