Increase Traction w/o a rear locker? How?

If there is a perfect 1:1 torque bias and the brakes apply equal force to each wheel there can be no increased traction from brake application. But perhaps 1:1 bias is not perfect, or the brakes do not actually apply equal force to each wheel? There is some friction within the differential...

Anyone use a Mountain Hardwear Shifter 4?

To give you another option right now you can get a Marmot Argent 4P tent including footprint for $150 shipped from Sierra Trading Post with the use of a coupon code. I use a different Marmot tent and I am pleased with it.

ARB intensity 7" LED lights, who has them?

Ah, that makes sense. I just spent $$$ on Baja Designs lights because they are one of very few brands on the market that are not 6000K+ CCT, which I also have problems with. Hopefully they live up to their billing.

ARB intensity 7" LED lights, who has them?

I haven't seen either but "on paper" these seem like an interesting less expensive alternative: https://www.mudlifeled.com/product-category/aurora-r-series/ Reasons?

The Frankenstein Build: 1996 Tacoma Long Travel/Expo/Trail Rig

I see that around the time of the rear air locker installation you had Bilstein's back there. How could that possibly keep up with custom coil-overs on a long travel front? Isn't that the truck equivalent of a fiddler crab? (One tiny claw, huge claw.) (I imagine that will be addressed as I...

Falken Wildpeak AT/3W - anyone running them? Opinions?

Portland had an ice storm recently so I had ample opportunity to try out these tires in the worst conditions. On thick glare ice the A/T3W's were as useless as summer tires, just like everything else I've driven on beside chains. (I haven't tried dedicated studless snow and ice tires as winter...

The Frankenstein Build: 1996 Tacoma Long Travel/Expo/Trail Rig

What a captivating history, and photos. Funny, inspiring, and scary. The lower ball joint destruction freaks me out! I think the 4G 4Runner is supposed to be stronger in that area but now I want to check mine. How would one go about that?

help needed on 4G 4Runner: cutting rear wheel wells for larger tires

zidaro, I have maybe 1/16" between the tires and the rear mudflaps under moderate compression. Pulling the mudflaps would gain maybe a third of an inch, not nearly enough to run chains, and I believe by law I need mudflaps anyway, so whatever trimming I do I'll need room to put on some generic...

help needed on 4G 4Runner: cutting rear wheel wells for larger tires

I am looking for a pictorial guide to enlarging the rear wheel area of a forth generation 4Runner. I recently upgraded to 33" tires and I like the flotation they provide however I have no clearance for chains. I want to be able to run mud/ice chains (at least) on the rear. I do not wish to...

Snow Chains... what are you using?

That's called a two-link-spacing (2-link) chain. They are harder to find but factory options exist. How do you like a pair of these 2-link chains on the rear with none on the front? Can yous till steer OK?

Yotalockers.com - ELockers for All Offroad Toyotas

Why? I have a limited slip rear and if some day I feel the need for more traction I intend to add a front locker. Others have run this combination and not reported problems.

The importance of a rear dust light in the southwest.

The two wheel conveyances I've ridden were powered by my own legs. I have (had) no prejudice against any kind of vehicle. I think I am a courteous driver. I try to be the first to pull off a one lane road, I wait for and defer to cyclists since I know how vulnerable they are, etc. When I was...

The importance of a rear dust light in the southwest.

At risk of coming across as a ************** myself: in that case maybe people shouldn't be running 2WD trucks on public roads/paths of that condition. The way it is being described, in addition to the earlier claim that the suspension (on some of these trucks) is out of control unless driven fast...

Falken Wildpeak AT/3W - anyone running them? Opinions?

I now have five and a half hours of back road snow driving on the Falkens. The floatation of the 285/70/17 A/T3W is a remarkable improvement over the 255/75/17 S/T Maxx, and the grip in fresh snow seems to be improved as well. I got places I never would have made it on the Coopers, and I never...
