    Need 4130 chromoly steel

If you're new to welding, using gas-fuel process on 4130 at trailer-scale is not likely to end in success. It requires diligent surface prep (even the oils from your skin can result in inclusions that will crack the weld) and very precise temperature control involving pre- and post-heating to...

    SPOT Gen3 satellite tracker

I'm pretty sure that Delorme uses the Iridium satellite network instead of Globalstar, for better coverage and reliability. GlobalStar is really the Achilles heal of Spot.

    Jetboil noob question

Its called a JetBoil, not a JetSimmer or JetCook. :D In experience, you are correct that you can't turn the heat down much. You can, however, remove the pot from the stove and manually add space between the flame and pot base/heat exchanger to make it cook on lower heat. Due to the stove's high...

Reviews of Samsung Galaxy S 4 smartphone

I love my Galaxy S4. I purchased it on T-Mobile, and was pleasantly surprised to find their 4G LTE coverage nearly everywhere across Seattle despite it not being officially online yet. The S4 blows away the performance of any phone currently out there, and the software is well-designed. It came...

    streaming radio

I use it a lot in town, but it does not work reliably on slower mobile data networks in rural areas where the signal is marginal. It stops to buffer every minute or two, which is very annoying. I don't know how much data it uses, I have unlimited and don't watch it. I will say that Pandora seems...

    Tent heater ideas please

Here's the ultimate idea for what you want to accomplish, the AT "Hot Box" Portable Heater: It might be a bit outside your budget, but at the least it should give you some inspiration!

    A TENT MATERIAL PVC

If I were going for a super-durable, heavy, non-breathable fabric choice (which I wouldn't, but to each his own), I'd go for the material that whitewater rafts are made of. That used to be DuPont Hypalon, but that has been discontinued for a couple years. A good newer material is Pennel Orca...

Any Experience Yet with the Superchips TrailDash

Interesting. In my opinion, it would be a heck of a lot more useful if it was a small, interface-less Bluetooth accessory combined with an Android/iPhone app. I think most people already have enough screens in their vehicle, and don't need to add one more. Removing all that redundant hardware...

    Samsung Galaxy Tablet [Android]

I have the Galaxy Note 10.1, and recently upgraded from the Asus Transformer Prime. The Galaxy Note is as wonderful as the Transformer was horrible. Everything just runs perfectly, and the performance is amazing. I had to use a Bluetooth GPS with the Transformer, as the built-in GPS on that...

    Womp 'Em Stick

The Womp 'Em Stick didn't do much for me other than comic relief, but it did have a linked video that I found interesting, the "Swedish Torch". Anyone ever tried this out?

    Diesel News: POST HERE

It looks like any chances of seeing the much-anticipated Mahindra diesel trucks on US shores are now officially dead.

Google Maps for Android, with offline maps

I'm not sure why Google is suddenly promoting this feature. The pre-caching of offline maps has been in Maps for Android for at least 6 months (I've been using it).

    UNICAT Amerigo Ford F550!!

In addition to the vaporware F550 Amerigo, there were also plans for a Dodge Ram 5500 version (http://www.unicatamericas.com/vehicles_dodge_5500.html).

    UNICAT Amerigo Ford F550!!

To the best of my knowledge (as an enthusiastic observer, no inside knowledge), there were only three Unicat "Amerigos" that ever came out of "Unicat North America": Avi Meyers' International 7400 (http://unicatamericas.com/en/info/AM205s_I_7400_213_ec_4x4.html) Charlie Aarons' Unimog U500...

    Delorme InReach pricing announced

I just re-read the original linked blog post and caught that $25 "downgrade fee". That's pretty disappointing and I feel a bit misled by their initial description that you could switch plans at your leisure. Much less worth it given that caveat, in my opinion.

    Delorme InReach pricing announced

One of the InReach's big selling points is that you can go up/down plans on the fly as long as you maintain the base plan. If you're only traveling a couple months out of the year, that only adds $30 to the base plan to get the tracking when you're on the road.

It is possible! U4000+ cab in same container!

It seems like if you have the resources to buy something like one of these UNICAT's that there should be some legal loophole you can slip through in order to actually use it. However, I haven't found any evidence of that and it seems the regulations are pretty airtight these days. I guess I'll...
