    WK2 - Trailhawk vs Laredo e

If he does decide to bump up to a limited for the features then the trailhawk package is not a bad deal. You can get the same functional parts on a non trailhawk but if you happen to want everything included in the package it’s a better deal than specking out a limited with the same items (not...

AdventureTaco - turbodb's build and adventures

Great posts and very nice photos. We did the WABDR (OR-CA) last year. Took us a bit of back and forth but we did finally find that China wall, N48.46973, W119.75336 by my gps marker. That washout spot you mentioned in the same post definitely gave me the hebee jebees being the first person in...

AdventureTaco - turbodb's build and adventures

Reading this reminds me of choices I made when I got my first new truck back in 2002. I had owned and worked on and driven lots of the older Toyota’s (1984, 86, 3x 87, 88, 90, 91, 93) and was really considering getting a truck optioned just like yours. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time...

    1987 4runner travel light build

Yeah adjusting down means turning the preload bolt counter clockwise. If you adjust it to stock preload it will probably ride the best. It kinda looks like it’s cranked up an inch or so to me. Factory service manual (search online FSM) should have some numbers to help you figure out what...

    1987 4runner travel light build

Looks like either a trail master or pro-comp 4” suspension lift or something very similar to that. The two are very similar and most of the parts interchange. Only difference I found is that pro comp has cast iron brackets (that don’t look like it until you break them) and pro comp are...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

I'm not very tall (5'8") but found that removing the rear seat bottoms makes it much more comfortable for sleeping in the back with the tailgate up. It's only 2 bolts per side, easy. Xterra has the same type of folding seats and the same issue but I noticed some of the later models actually...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

Since you had that much crud in your blower fan you might check and see if you have a lot of needles/leaves under the metal cowl piece in front of the windshield. It's pretty easy to remove and then vacuum, then water flush the remaining junk out the drains on the sides (covered by the fenders...

    Halley - '17 WK2 Trailhawk Overland Build

Instead of using the spare tire wheel tub have you considered or looked to see if there is space inside the driver side tub (under the driver seat) to install the second battery? From what I've seen there is a plastic tub in there and then a harness and connector through the center, but it...

Not So Subtle E350 Shuttle - 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed

As said above stainless on stainless galls, it just does. You can slow down and be very careful and it may still gall. The best solution I've found is anti seize. We use a ton of stainless at work and never have an issue as long as we use anti seize.

    Halley - '17 WK2 Trailhawk Overland Build

Thanks Ryan that is helpful. For our food packing we've been using a plastic tote that fits with a matching tote loosely packed with all the pots pans plates, silverware etc. We then put all the dry food in the two totes. Helps keep things from getting crushed, but on the longer trips it's...

    Halley - '17 WK2 Trailhawk Overland Build

Ryan-- I read through your recent trip up through Canada and was wondering if you could share details of the gear/stuff you brought (in the pelican cases). In particular, what did you use and what would you not bring next time? We do a handful of road trip/car camping type trips each year and...

    '94 Toyota Pickup build

Just a note about the gears. You may want to check and see what you have before you buy anything. There's a chance you already have 4.88's. IIR, for most of these the v6 auto came with either 4.37 gears (with the p225/75 tires) or 4.88 with the 31's. The v6 manual came with 4.10's (p225's)...

I can't tell you which OB2 scanners may work with your van but this what I've learned: For the cheap "ELM327" type scanners, the Bluetooth would not work with my iPhone or MacBook, but the wifi version works fine on all of our apple devices. I've used it a lot on Chevy and Chrysler products...

    Volkswagen Vanagon 4x4 Conversion.

Great, makes sense! For your sake I was hoping that was the case. The transmission I was thinking of looks like this. I guess at some point Subaru must have gone to a conventional "clockwise" rotation rear driveline.

    Volkswagen Vanagon 4x4 Conversion.

Yup you are right it's all gear driven. After all the discussions I've had with friends on this t-case I don't know why I wrote chain up above. I also meant to say "straight through to the input" (not output, wrong word). The only reversal I see is on the intermiediate/idler gear. The PTO...

    Volkswagen Vanagon 4x4 Conversion.

Pretty neat project you have going on here. Something I'm curious about on the drivetrain.... i feel like I missed something somewhere. It looks like you are using the rear output of the Subaru transmission to drive the rover tcase through the PTO output which then drives flipped Toyota...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

Not an FJ60-- but I have a Chevy Silverado half ton with a 4.8, nv3500 manual and 4.10's. (I think the standard gearing was 3.73, but I got the optional 4.10's). It came with 245/75R16's factory, but having ran stock and 265/75 and 285/75, I think the gearing works out pretty well, probably...

Dilemma re: replacement for TDI -- 4Runner or Tacoma

Just my opinion - I'd lean towards the 4runner. -It's smaller and more maneuverable -Despite it being shorter than a double cab short box there is still room to sleep in the back. -I feel like for "truck" type uses like hauling stuff to the dump, mulch, wood hauling, etc a small trailer is...

04 Rubicon improvements for mild off road exploring.

I would probably start with a high clearance/"tummy tuck" tcase slidplate before adding a suspension lift. And when/if you do add any lift you might start with a spring spacer first. I know many will disagree but I've yet to ride in a lifted short arm TJ that drives and rides as good as the...

Show off you Laptop/Tablet/GPS mounts please

Could you provide a few details on this? Did you modify the dash, or use 2003+ bezel or did you find a "bolt in" kit? Thanks!
