I used 1X1 tube and 14 gage, it was heavy I would use thinner stuff if I knew better.

If you are new to welding, you may want to get someone who has more experience to weld your important stuff (tongue, spring mounts...) you would not want it to come undone going down the highway. It extended my tongue and bolted it as I did not trust my welds. My welding is much better now but...

How would you think the 175lb struts would work on a lid without the tent? great looking trailer!

Great pictures of the trailer in action. Is it stable with the tent at that height? Looks like a great way to haul kayaks.
