Cheap Gen 1 Monty: Worth it?

Speaking of smog checks, we do have them. What's most likely to cause a failure to pass? Cats are a given possibility. Is there anything specific to the Montero that tends to cause problems?

Cheap Gen 1 Monty: Worth it?

Thanks. I'll keep all that in mind. I'm looking at it after work today. How much does it cost to replace an ECU?

Cheap Gen 1 Monty: Worth it?

I've been looking for a cheap 4wd to use as a play and bad weather driving rig. It doesn't need to be a daily driver, but I don't want to wrench on it constantly. I'll be driving it to work a once or twice a week (20 mile round trip). My plan is just to pick up something cheap that I can use as...

help with ideas for an expo rig for a family with too many kids. lol

Our Travelall will easily fit 3 car seats. The rear bench is close to 6' wide. We've even considered adding a 4th seatbelt. On a trip with extended family one of the other vehicles broke down and we were able to squeeze 2 adults next to a car seat and a booster seat. The whole passenger...

    tuff stuff synthetic winch line?

The steel line on my 8274 is old and frayed. I've been thinking about switching to synthetic. A cheap, but good rope would be nice. I found some info on Dyneema 12-Strand rope here: http://www.bexco.be/content/bexconet/uploads/docs/Dyneema%2012%20strand.pdf Assuming it's the right data, it...

I love seeing more Travelalls. I've never had a vehicle get as much attention as our '73. It drives great too.

    Time to travel... International Travelall

This summer my wife and I decided we needed a vehicle big enough to go camping in. We wanted something that was good offroad, could seat 6 or more and, and was reliable. We have 3 children and all that comes with them. I also like to have room for a bike or to when we camp. We used to have a...

Lets see some full size pictures...

It was a nice e-bay find. It's essentially stock other than the front axle and the lockers. Those are the 2 mods I would want anyway. The plan is to get some reasonable size tires on there (maybe 235\85\16) and go through all the standard reliability stuff. Then maybe I'll work on a drawer system.

Lets see some full size pictures...

Here's our new to us '70 Travelall. It's got a 392, wide ratio T19, NP202, dana 60's and ARB lockers on both ends. The 37" humvee tires will be coming off shortly. They look cool, but I want to be able to turn to the right.

    Hiking Rickshaw

I'm using my 1st post to resurrect an old thread. When my daughter was 3 and our oldest son was 11 months I modified a Walmart bike trailer to use as a chariot to hike into Havasupai. I took the poles and harnes from a Ziffo ski sled and bolted them to the trailer. The harness has a wide and...
