Thanks Dave! The 105 is no longer "mine", but yeah it was a nice vehicle. Unfortunately the 105 never came with the 1HD-FTE which it should have... The only diesel option was the 1HZ. It was the 3rd 105 that I had and the best. I am not too distressed about leaving the 105 as we fly on...

Sorry Rosco - missed that. Yup, the white 105 and last two 79 series we purchased all came with no FWH... Just a normal front drive flange like a Defender. Interesting as every other cruiser we have ever had (well, the part time ones anyway) had FWH. To keep on topic - here's my '78 which is...

No disks! Unlike in Oz, we get real basic drums on pretty much everything... Even the last of the 105 Stds have drums, the GX got disks. I have had both and to be honest apart from the ABS of the GX I couldn't really see any difference. The 'spec' of my 105 you would not believe - no steps...

It's funny you mention Rosco! Bit of a lottery here with what you get spec-wise. Some come with spare on a rear door and a 2nd tank, some with high level LED brake light etc, some with rev counter. I sort of lost on the lottery and ended up with as basic a basic troopy can be. Didn't bother...

Very cool - just like mine :coffee: Even the same colours.... Sorry for you guys! Swapped my 105 GX for the Std (exact same as in the vid, but no side bars) Here:http://forum.ih8mud.com/70-series-tech/248196-78-series-tourer.html Gil

1990 Land Cruiser HZJ73 vetting and build

"Another "Gadget" I am looking for is a block like device (no fuses as I have fuse blocks) to mount all my 24V stuff rather than having a bunch of wires coming off my negative on one battery and the positive off the other. Posts are looking like octopuses. Anyone got an idea, suggestion?" I...

    78 Series Troopy build up

Thanks Guys: So this afternoon I fitted the rear door table - luckily I still got plenty of my custom made Mahogany (Khaya Ivorensis with WBP glue) marine ply left. My GF cut them out - a mere 20 mins with a small vertical bandsaw and a belt sander... She has a lot of cool tools in the carving...

    78 Series Troopy build up

Well, thanks for the words of encouragement folks! So just before Christmas DHL delivered me a parcel from UK containing some very cool LED caravan awning lights that I bought off fleebay... My idea was to supplement the ****py rear interior light and rig one up to illuminate the rear door where...

FJ40 Hack-job or the real Monty?

Indonesia I think. Have seen some custom jobs (e.g. Ballie's) ones in Africa, double cab 79 pickup has to be about the best! Gil

    78 Series Troopy build up

Thanks guys! Over the next few weeks hopefully ("real") work will ease off a bit over Christmas allowing me to get on as there is still some stuff to do: - all the wiring (loads of it!) - side mounting for roof tent (ladder gets in the way if you are in/out the back door. - Fridge mount/tie...

So then onto the African Outback Drawer System. Damn heavy stuff it is. The installation was fairly straightforward, although I did change the installation slightly. Instead of drilling the floor I utilised some VERY strong mounts which originally lock the side bench seats to the floor. The...

    78 Series Troopy build up

Well, we are supposed to be moving into the dry season in West Africa, but murphy's law dictates that when you want to fit a rooftent on a Saturday afternoon it lashes down. Rain here is like a shower - really, really hard tropical rain. Anyway I decided to go for it. I positioned the 105 so...

Now the roof tent. So first the biggest cardboard package I have ever received! Package opened and the roof tent popped open in the middle of the living room. Very cool piece of kit - gas struts and a very simple mounting system to bolt onto roof bars. Built in National Luna strip light...

    78 Series Troopy build up

Well, two massive boxes were pulled out of a container a few days ago... and I didn't even get to open them until tonight. What would you rather be doing - meetings about world Mahogany markets or rooftents and drawers? Exactly! So we got the boxes home and started unpacking this evening...

    78 Series Troopy build up

Okay, well I learned today that my African Outback drawers, deep cycle battery and roof tent are in a container, sitting on our truck down at the port - was loaded last night, but customs won't allow it to move until Monday morning ggggrrrrrrrrr! Oh and our MD has flown in for one of his rare...
