    40 Guy builds a 100 Series

Great thread! Read the whole thing yesterday. Subscribed and relevant to my interests. I just landed a galactic gray LX470 and am starting my plans. You're on the same track I'm thinking about down to the 2M radio!

Lets see some full size pictures...

And not even then anymore- diesel Suburbans are amazing. But too small, hence my rig. :ylsmoke: These pages are inspiring to get out there... just caught up on the last several dozen!

    Larger Expo Rig

I was in a similar boat a year ago. All of those are probably too small. Think truck camper and be a happy camper. :) Your choices are good otherwise- I was drawn to a lifted Excursion with a full safari rack recently.

1984 Chevrolet 4x4 Diesel Sport Van Restoration and Adventure thread

Yeah yeah yeah. A-Team livery for starters, then we'll talk. :) J/k- very interesting. How did it wind up over there and back here? Will follow.

How many miles is too many?

All of my vehicles generally have 100k or more on them, but are maintained like a top. My rig here though had 277k when I bought it, has 279k now after almost a year but I hardly drive it and that was including a trip to CO and back! After mounting the TC on it, it's largely 'retired' now and...

Additional Chevy saddle tanks on Suburban?

I've got the towing kit- does that mean I'm SOL on a rear Burb tank? Great idea on the sand rails- I was wondering where to put a set. They're next on my list.

Additional Chevy saddle tanks on Suburban?

In for feedback as well, on my K3500. It seems like a lot of space that could be used on that side as well, maneuvering around the exhaust (oh, maybe that's why)... One of my next projects is getting the 10-gal. tank from the back of a Suburban mounted in my truck, same spot, spare tire...

    The TerraShuttle build- a 1993 Chevrolet K3500 6.5L turbo diesel 4x4 quad-cab TC rig

Yeeep, and them's thar the reason! I'm trying to start to value my time, and decided that wasn't a worthwhile use of it for now. The turbo isn't seen so much as turning up the wick so much as it is making it breathe better and run cooler, though perhaps anyway as I hear it makes it a bit faster...

    The TerraShuttle build- a 1993 Chevrolet K3500 6.5L turbo diesel 4x4 quad-cab TC rig

Thank, chili. Yeah I still have the A-Team Turbo sitting on my workbench. I attempted to install it myself (right at the top of the engine bay, looks easy enough!), but rusted/seized/two-piece bolts ended up doing me in. I'm now looking at having to take my GM-3 off... along with the Bank 1...

    The TerraShuttle build- a 1993 Chevrolet K3500 6.5L turbo diesel 4x4 quad-cab TC rig

Man, have I got a lot of updating to do. Most everything I discussed earlier is complete and has been for a couple months now, but life...! Let's get to those awesome spacers first, I should have linked earlier: http://www.wheeladapter.com/dually_spacers.php I remember back in May/June talking...

    RAPTOR EXP THREAD

I think it's a wicked platform if you can bulk up the rear-end for hauling gear or even a shortbed TC. Though something along the lines of a Baja kinda build with a safari rack, plus a bed rack and in place of the tailgate for a beefy spare and jerry cans would be ideal for that truck.

    Cummins or Cadillac?

Interesting question. As someone who has owned the Escalade 6.0 and now 6.2 motors, if diesel isn't a necessity for your application, I think you'll be rather pleased with the power and reliability of the Caddy mills. They are built to tow a small yacht.

My 1989 Suburban with a Westfalia top grafted into it... also dual 360 swivel seats

Whoa! Wicked project. Way to keep your original rig and reinvent it for your family. Well done and keep it up.

04 suburban, back story and plans

I love it, the story and the rig. Full-length safari rack on top, stat! I really like this gen Suburban (have an 05 Escalade ESV instead though) and wouldn't mind a Z71 for a similar build.

    The TerraShuttle build- a 1993 Chevrolet K3500 6.5L turbo diesel 4x4 quad-cab TC rig

Yesterday I got a pair of 2" steel spacers installed on the rear to widen the track of the truck out (now equals the front, looks a lot better too) and lower the center of gravity somewhat for better handling, and it worked wonders. The rear width is now 4" wider, and it was noticeable the...

    Introducing....."Sueburban"

Congrats! I think for what you're looking to do she will serve you well, just stay away from muddy roads. And I like the name. I love 2500 Subs- trying to find one with a 6.5 for my Dad right now to replace his 1998 1500.

    The TerraShuttle build- a 1993 Chevrolet K3500 6.5L turbo diesel 4x4 quad-cab TC rig

Hey neighbor- yes that's mine still on there from November... seller must have opted for the 'until it sells' option and never updated it. I've been meaning to let him know. But thanks! I'm loving the truck still and all the possibilities it has to offer. I'd highly recommend one like it...
