    Florida to California PCS

It really was a great trip. I was dreading it until I found this website. We didn't get to do a few things I had planned, but we kept our driving days to under 6 hours and avoided the interstate as much as possible, that allowed us to take our time when we found something interesting to stop and...

    Florida to California PCS

Day 9: Bishop, CA to Beale AFB , CA And our last day. It was supposed to be a nice easy 4 hour drive, we checked the weather around the Donner Pass everyday of the trip with no bad weather, to include this morning. Well, as soon as we pulled into the Lake Tahoe area, it started to snow. We got...

Day 8: Henderson, NV, AZ to Bishop, CA We rode on RT 66 for a few hours, it was very underwhelming. Bishop is a pretty town, we had some awesome BBQ there at Holy Smoke BBQ. Having been born and raised in the South, I was very surprised to find such great BBQ in California.

    Florida to California PCS

Hi everyone, In March my family of 4 + dog moved from the Florida panhandle to northern California. I know this is a late report, but I have been busy with military training and school (mine and my kids), etc. This is my first trip report, so if the photo coverage is slim, I apologise. I tend...

    Family Adventures in the UK

Unfortunately we didn't do much of anything while I was stationed in England. We "hiked" a few times though Aspal Close near Lakenheath Village, but that's really about it. There are some beautiful small roads in England though. Sometimes just navigating though cities in an American SUV was...

    PVC for shoestring budget equipment?

I ran across this today. Seems like the dish washing station and handwashing station could be of use for a family. Maybe a smaller version of the prep table, that could be a cook table too for a small camp stove. Thoughts? http://www.gspiglet.org/pvc.htm

We're moving across the county! Adventure advice wanted.

Have a good trip! Ours was good, I missed the camping though, my kids were pretty bummed too. We diff get to see some pretty neat sights though. The biggest hitch was I-80 through northern California, we hit the snow last Saturday. Luckily I did some research and bought snow chains, but didn't...

We're moving across the county! Adventure advice wanted.

We just finished day 6. We've stopped for the night at Shreveport, LA, Wichita Falls, TX, San Angelo, TX, Alamogordo, NM, Tucson, AZ, and we're currently in Flagstaff, AZ. Our plans to camp at the Grand Canyon and Death Valley are a bust, both campgrounds are full! But we really aren't prepared...

    Roof Basket Placement

I put a roof basket on my Grand Cherokee for our move. It's a lot shorter than I thought it would be and I have it installed at the back of the roof. To me it looks a little goofy, all tiny perched at the back of the roof. But my gas mileage doesn't appear to be suffering too much. Where do you...

    Coleman sleeping bags at Walmart/Target

If there was a mom and pop store here I would certainly check it out, but there isn't even a big box sporting goods store here, which I do find strange in such a popular tourist/spring break town. We do have lots of gimmicky beach shops though. You want a cheap bodyboard, or a feather braided...

    Coleman sleeping bags at Walmart/Target

Thanks everyone. I ended up ordering a pair for the wife and myself from Amazon. My kids have a Coleman and a Swiss Gear from target, the Coleman one has the same no snag zipper and other features, but the lining is that smooth, nylon like poly, not a fleece type. My son doesn't seem to mind...

    Coleman sleeping bags at Walmart/Target

Just a question, did you buy a Coleman instant tent? They don't come with rain fly's, there sold separately.

    Coleman sleeping bags at Walmart/Target

I noticed the bags at Walmart locally aren't named like the ones on Coleman's website or even on Walmart's website. Like instead of being called "Trinidad", there is a bag that isn't named, but just Coleman brand sleeping bag rated from 40 - 60 degrees. Are these the same bags? Same features...

    Family learning to snowboard?

Thanks for the replies! We're shooting for next winter (2014), still trying to come up with an affordable dollar amount to save up. The ones closer to Beale are closing for good or for the season?

    Family learning to snowboard?

Whelp, being an E-5 in the military with 3 dependents I am far from rich. I guess we'll just have to pick a poor man's sport.

Oil weight... Should I be worried?

Here is the response to an email sent to Jeep customer service: Emphasis added by me. Looks like I'm having my oil changed back.

Oil weight... Should I be worried?

I plan to keep the 3000 mile change, 6000 miles makes me nervous. Thanks FordGuy1, I'm worried about engine parts wearing out myself. I plan to drive this thing for a long time yet. My 5 y/o son has already said he wants it when he's old enough!
