Sorry for the hi-jack (or free bump), but, Griff your thinking of selling yourself?? Wow! Just ask man I can loan you some cash! Desperate times....

Hey, Cam! Not a cash issue, just a kicking around the idea.

Cirrus, do post it on ebay. I'd hate to see you not get your money out of that great truck. Good luck, man.

I know I know, I am going to get killed but that's timing in the car market. I dont want to drag it across the country again. I am interested in trades also. A well set up off roader. Thinking I may sell my FJ too if I can find the right truck to trade for the LR. I may put it on ebay.

not that bad

I wish I could buy it. Absolutely freakin' classic, but I'm afraid I cannot afford the repair bills on these things... If I have to ask how much it cost to keep these trucks running, I can't afford it.

Stephanie,
don't sell yourself short. Once the major issues are taken care of, and it sounds like this one has, they are good reliable classic cars. There are many parts suppliers and the simplicity of them makes them fairly user serviceable.

For a classic car, they can be perfectly reliable. I have been bashing the series 2a that is borrowing my driveway around Utah for 2 years now. It has been daily driven 50 miles eachway to work. it has done at least 5 extended (4 day or more) off-road trips, it has been all over moab 3 times. Really, the only major repairs were some frame welding (can't blame the truck for getting dropped in a hole) and a new ignition unit (victim of the welding) also not its fault. Aside from that it has had a few oil changes and the valves checked a couple of times as well as all the fluids. This can be done by the average owner, with a little patience.

Seriously you should do this. :D

bump for a pretty truck.

MMM

ps I did not drop it in the hole. just saying

I would love to do something like this, but I don't think that I've earned the financial right to even begin to think about whether I can afford this. Cirrus, see if you can prove me wrong. What are the parts like, money-wise? What is maintenance expected to be like over the long run?

Stepahanie,

Series land rover parts are generally quite reasonable and very available.

Sure, a rebuild on a transmission is going to set you back $1500-2000, but you can find a used one for $200. There are clubs all across the country and series owners are usually very helpful and willing to part with spares on the cheap.

Brakes are very reasonably priced as are the electical compenents and pretty much everything else. This one appears to have had the expensive stuff (frame, body, paint, interior, swivel balls) mostly done. They are also incredibly easy to work on and dead simple to repair.

On the other hand, you better be able to fix one on the side of the trail as they are somewhat maintaince intensive.

True - maintenance intensive is very accurate. That is a sick price. Looks to be a great starting point. If I didn't already have one.........I would be in trouble.

If you want to get an idea on parts, look at british pacific, rovers north, atlantic british.
As I said in an email to an interested party, whoever gets this, is getting a gift. I can't believe the lack of interest I am getting in this. May have to drag it across with me.

Still for Sale!!!!! Did the ebay deal and the high bid was 8999 (My reserve was 10k) so I am lowering the price to 9000! I am leaving in 2 weeks, so if it doesn't go soon I guess I will be dragging it with me.

Ron, can you loan me $9,000? We could agree on some sort of a payment schedule. Sounds like you are daring me...

Cirrus, I'd seriously consider getting it if I had the money.
