1974 Expedition Unimog For Sale

SOLD - June 28th 2012 - SOLD

Some of you may remember seeing this MOG floating around the internet a few years ago.

It's time for us to sell the Mog, as we are moving and the trip is off the plans.

The Unimog is based on a 1974 model 416 that was converted into a single cab expedition camper in Germany. We purchased it from a German couple who used it to drive from Germany – South Africa – South America – Alaska, over the period of nine years. This truck was used and lived in every day across half of the world. This is a genuine expedition vehicle, built and tested in the toughest terrains. It has been in the deserts of Africa, the Amazon, the salt flats of Bolivia, the tundra of the Arctic Circle and everywhere in between. Now it's sitting in storage sadly, but that's a different story…

Here is the detailed information on the vehicle:

We are asking $32,000CDN as it is today. We have been looking into registering it here in Canada, if we don't have any immediate interest. That of course may affect the price depending on the work required.

The truck is located near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We are in the process of relocating and my job takes me on the road quite a bit, but I'm always available to chat and answer questions about the vehicle, and we can setup something to view it even if I am not available.

It is in the same condition as when we purchased it in 2008; it was used every day for 9 years prior to that. So rest assured it starts, drives and the water, heat and electrics all work as expected. We were planning on getting it inspected by a Unimog specialist at the start of our trip, and I would recommend the same to anyone wanting to use it for a long haul as well.

Feel free to pass on any questions and thanks for looking!

Humm....

Very excited about it - until I saw the photos and noticed that it is NOT a Doka (Double Kabin) as described... perhaps it was one once - but its not anymore...

Just thought I would caution others to the inaccurate description...

Haf - Sorry 'bout the confusion, I will clarify that it *was* a Doka. I've updated the ad to reflect this, again apologies for getting your hopes up!

Darn...

Thanks for making the clarification - but I wish you could make it a Doka camper again instead...

Looks like a great truck and deal BTW.

WOW! I'm shocked this hasn't sold...

Is there anything you can do to this to get the MPH closer to 65? How does it do with fuel consumption? Awesome vehicle.

If I could justify a dedicated camper, I would be all over this.

Yeah the poor thing is still sitting in storage waiting for its next adventure...

I'm no expert but I beleive the tune on the motor is very conservative, the previous owners did that for longevity purposes.

There are four options for making a mog go faster.

Regear/replace the axles with highway geared ones.
Add an overdrive unit.
Install larger tires and whatever lift is required to clear them.
Replace the engine with one that will rev higher and make it's power higher in the rev range.

If you do any regearing, you'll have to at least add a turbo or swap in a 350 do get decent performance.
None of this is easy or cheap but it's definitely possible.

Awesome rig! Good luck with the sale!

Just saw your flickr. looks like you were right by my apt in NYC back in Dec! Also used to live a block from the Ghostbusters Fire House down in Tribeca. Glad to see someone as obsessed with that movie as I am. haha. GLWS.
