Here's a video from last weekend. Truck is running great but I can't stand the width of the rims. Think I'm gonna check into those Toyos and 8" wide rims.

These have been discussed elsewhere, but might be an option for you. I'm just north of Blaine, and heading down to Ventura Cty in May if you're interested in some sort of shipping arrangements.

Here's how they look on a 12v Dodge. I talked with its owner and he seems really happy with them.

I suppose calling a weekend trip an "expedition" is a little over exaggeration, so I'll just call my weekend trip an "excursion". I've been wanting to get back up to the Ben Lomond high lakes for the last few years but just haven't made it happen. A buddy and I were talking about it when we realized our wives would be gone this weekend leaving us with our two youngest daughters to entertain. A plan was hatched and we headed off to see just what kind of trouble we could get into.

Now, my buddy decided three or so years ago he wanted a Scout II. He found one he liked about 9 hrs away, and because I'm such a good friend, I went with him to get it. Mostly because I talked him into buying it, but it was a pretty good deal and I am a good friend. "The Toaster" as it has come to be known, is a 74 Scout II that is completely stock except for some coil over helper shocks the PO put on because the rear leafs were sagging. Apparently it's pretty common with the Scouts. It's a fun rig with an inline "power thrift six", T-18 and Dana 20. I new he was a bit nervous about where we were going because he's never done anything like this. I assured him if we ran into trouble we'd just turn around. I don't think he was expecting this.

He rolled with the punches and made it with only minor damage to his rear bumper. It really was cool to see just what that old IH was capable of. I was pretty happy with how well my big old pile did too. The torque of the 12v is a match made in heaven for this big heavy truck and it impresses me every time I crawl a steep hill in 4 low. Still need new rims and tires. Starting to think about 37" on 8" wide rims. The extra clearance would be nice.

Here's more pics from the weekend. Enjoy.

Just back from Mexico. Had a great time and met some incredible folks. I bought new shoes before I left. Went up to a 37 x 12.50-17's in the Goodyear MTR. Much better.

Camping at the beach was fun. Nice to have all my gear there with me and not have to fool around with a tent.

This is what happens when a roll of duct tape is not put in a container. Apparently it rolled all the way to the front of the bed and was unreachable. Fortunately I had my duct tape removal tool with me. I was thinking I'd have to use the one with the Converse handles, but I was able to reach it with the deck shoe handled version.

Looking good! Where did you go in Mex? I haven't been down in a few years and am in serious need of a fix!

We went to Ensenada. Met a lot of great folks down there. My 17yo and I went down with our church. It was a great experience for both of us. We built a house for a young minister and his family. Poor guy was living in a house not much bigger than a walk in closet with his wife and young child. Even the locals felt bad about how small his house was. We built a house around his existing house turning it into a master bedroom. The guys who have been coming down for years all said it was the first time they had seen the homeowner come out to help. Pretty darn neat.

The Monday crew. Guy on the right did 18 years hard time for being an accessory to murder. Earned him a one way ticket to Mexico and some incredible stories. My daughter made me way proud by out working all the other kids.

That's awesome. We met a couple from Oregon when we were at Harris Beach in May that does the same type of deal every year. I'm not a regular church goer, but I'd love to get involved with a project like that. As a builder, I might even be helpful too!

The Calvary church in St Helena just got back about a week ago from a multi-denominal trip to northern Baja. The group of about 65 had both building teams that built a school (that was badly needed), and a house for a deserving family, while the medical team simultaneously provide free tmt and meds to the very needy population.
They go about this time yearly. I think there might have been some BC folks, too, in the group.
I didn't go along, so I'm light on details. My wife and I "house sat", so a medical couple could go. Light duties like watering and keeping the sugar water flowing for the free loading hummingbirds. Oh, yeah, and checking out the NAPA Valley wineries.....

Oops! No. I didn't know about Taylor's Tacos. Ate mex in Calistoga at Porto Vallarta (hole-in-the-wall) restaurant. Good+ food/prices/service (Judged by our nachos, chilli relleno, Corona)
Maybe next trip down. I'm back in Central WA, now....
