1985 4runner Diff Lockers

I drove an 84 4Runner with Detroits f/r for years in MN. I personally preferred the behavior of the Detroit on the snow/ice/roads to open. I found it more predictable - always new how the rear would react. Even when in 4WD on the highway - never felt it was an issue. But - that's just personal preference... And having said that, since then, every vehicle I've driven has had selectable lockers...

I can't remember if I said this earlier, but if they were the same cost, I would put in selectable lockers, but my rig came with the auto lockers and I have not had a reason to change. When I drive my 84 with the auto lockers, I don't have to think about "do I need to turn my locker on", I just have to decide between 4hi and 4low (and I have 4.7's for my low range too so that helps). However, on my Tacoma with selectable lockers I usually drive in 2 hi or 4hi until I get to a tricky point and then I stop and go through the motions of turning on the rear factory locker, and if needed, the switch for the front compressor, and then the front locker. It's a few more steps and a few more points of failure.
