Hi fellow Landrover enthusiest. I have my 1996 P38 running with a discovery junkyard engine. It is running fine however i do notice that it lacks power. When this junkyard engine has seen it's better days i am considering putting in a 4.6 that i have removed from a 2002 model year. I have all the components that belong to the Bosch engine. Such as the intake, ac compressor, etc. The transmission difference is the 96 has a Z22, and the 02 has a Z24. Can this swap be done is my question? Also , i am planning on getting the Becm from the 2002 rover if needed. Both vehicles are P38. One is 1996, the other is 2002. Can i make this happen?

Not the way you think.

Keep the GEMS system, swap just the 4.6 short block. You will not be able to use the 2002 heads because they will be fitted for secondary air injection.

To use the 2002 4.6 block you will have to change the crank sensor mounting plate. Use your existing transmission and 4.0 flex plate/flywheel/spacer assy.

There are a lot of electrical differences between the GEMS and Bosch and it is not as straight forward as you may think.

Honesty, your best resource is www.rangerovers.net for the technical hurdles and specifics.

you can plug off the Secondary Air injection. just use your GEMS crap, and get the right ECU. You'll need the 4.6 GEMS ecu.

BOSCH engine, Secondary Air Injection Removed and plugged off (2001 P38)
