Could a 2.4m roof tent be made to work on a Hilux?

Hi,

We have a 2.4m roof tent that we use for 2 adults and 3 small children. We had planned to fit it on a Land Cruiser 100, but unfortunately that sale has just fallen through.

We've just seen a mk6 Hilux that meets a load of our needs - including an aluminium canopy. We've tried one previously, and can confirm that all 3 children fit (they're not big), so aren't too worried about interior space compared to the LC100.

However the canopy has a rack that is only 2m. While we could fit 2 smaller tents on 2 seperate racks, we would prefer to keep the 2.4m tent if at all possible - it works really well for us.

Is this doable somehow - e.g. having the rack stick out further over the cab, fitting a longer rack to both the canopy and the cab, or adding a second rack for one end of the tent to rest on? My concern is the flex between the canopy and the cab - we'll be off-road, but not serious rock crawling.

Any ideas and advice gratefully received.

I've also added a poll, for me to ignore the results of if they don't match what I want to see!

Thanks in advance.
