I am in Germany now where I live 50% of the time and the other 50% in the US. I was checking out Auto Scout 24 for vehicles and this caught my eye. I want to state here that I am not familiar with Land Rover's in general but this looks like a cool rig.

Mission for my next exped vehicle:

Next 2.5 years exploring western US states back country and on into Canada and Alaska. My wife and I will also be taking along 2 dual sport bikes(KTM 530's) on a light weight alu trailer.

After the US we would ship the LR back to Germany and tour Europe and North Africa.

I know this rig would be perfect for Europe / North Africa but I am unsure of its capabilities on the US highway system while in transit on interstates connecting back country legs together. I have always had US iron that is 70 mph capable and I am concerned the 130 might be too off road for my needs but I am unsure as I am not familiar with it.

This looks like the 130 td5 variant with 122 hp.

Price 29.950 Euro
Date of first registration 9 / 2001
TÜV certified 2 / 2014
Kilometer 51.615 km
Power 122 hp
Colour Black
Fuel type Diesel
Emmision standard Euro3
Perm. GVW 3.500 kg
Axles 2 Axles
Gearing type Mechanical
Sleeping berth 2

Asking price is $39,400. I don't know if this is a reasonable number but I DO know that our USD's suck against the €uro.

Bajarat, that is a killer deal for us, but the wrong year for importation here. Assuming it is lhd as it appears to be...

Hi,

Some nice ideas on it but also some odd choices of kit, such as the side bars, chromed bar at the front and wrong size spare. Nothing that couldn't be fixed, also it looks very heavy and weighed down but the 130 is a big truck.

As said its too new to import, maybe you could temporarily import it. I have a TD5 and it is a great engine but not without some issues so make sure it is good before buying (water usage and diesel in sump), the worst being heads cracking around the internal fuel rail and ex port to coolant. Be sure to replace with the stronger Spanish made AMC head, I have this fitted now. Expect a $2000 repair bill.

As for 70mph, I would say this is possible but you need to have 1.22 transfer box ratio to make it bearable over long distances. Without you are looking at nearly 3000rpm but with about 2500 rpm which is much quieter and more relaxed. The TD5 responds well to a simple remap so $500 dollars would get you 150 bhp and more torque. More money could net you over 200 bhp. I have a VGT Turbo on mine without a remap at the moment and pulling away has been improved as the TD5 is a bit slow to get going.

I ran a 130 DC HCPU 300tdi in Oz for a number of years , they were rated at a train weight of 7450KG there , which i ran at regularly , it handled that quite well , 60mph cruise , you drop back up climbs , but it never had problems coping just a bit slower 40mph in 3rd or 4th . The long wheelbase gives you quite a comfortable ride . Australia like USA has the space to operate the vehicle without a lot of agravation (unlike UK) around 29mpg (imp) when light . It stays economical when loaded as well . HTSH
