well premium gas has been at $4/gallon for a while here in the Bay Area...the best I found for regular this weekend was about $3.73

But there is much more to consider if you want to calculate the cost of a car based on the fuel mileage. At a very minimum, you need to include the resale value. Even though a Chevrolet Cavalier and a Toyota Corolla gets about the same mileage, the Cavalier depreciate so much faster than the Corolla.
