Hey guys, my buddy is stuck on the side of the road in Northern California trying to get home when his truck stopped running. He can’t get a tow until Tuesday and the soonest a shop can see him is Thursday. ANY thoughts on something to try are GREATLY appreciated.

The truck is a 2008 3500 4x4 diesel.

He was driving down the freeway at freeway speeds with no issues. He noticed the security light come on and stay on while driving. The truck was driving with no noticeable issues except for the the security light came on.

He pulled over to check things out and everything worked fine expect the light wouldn’t go off. Unfortunately he turned the ignition off at this point and he was done. No other lights come on except the security light when in the run position. Nothing happens when he turns it to the start position. No matter what he does we can’t this to change.

We believe this to an issue with the security system locking him out. He has tried numerous times to do the 10 minute key in the run position hack with no luck. He was able to bypass the system and crank it through the starter with the key in the run position. It tried to start but wouldn’t keep running as if the security was killing it. He disconnected both batteries for awhile before reconnecting them - nope, no change. He was able to hook up to a blue point and there were no reported trouble codes and they were not able to start it using that.

We have been doing internet searched for a cause and a fix but haven’t found anything like it.

Seriously, any thoughts at this point are worth considering

Thanks

The update: he got it towed to the Chevy dealer. They had it for 2 days and charged 3 hours of labor. They said it was the 2 amp fuse that controls the ECM, BCM and the TCM. He doesn't buy that since he pulled and inspected each fuse during the extended down time. He thinks they reflashed the ECM in desperation and it started. He'll do the permanent fix when he gets home.

Thanks again for the try

Not GM specific but have seen cheap hardware store copied / chipped keys do similar things. 4 friends different vehicles all experienced near identical type of security system issues using the cheap hardware store chipped keys. 1 Subaru, 1 Porsche, 1 Toyota, one GMC.
