Josh (HB4x4) those images of Bodie are amazing. I am loving the HDR shots. I was standing right next to you and can't figure out how you got those two shots of the Stamp Mill without anyone in them! Sweet shots man. Also really like the street sign and the view through the old car of the buildings. It was a pleasure meeting you and Lisa this weekend.

X2 those photos were amazing, deff nice to see sitting here at work :(

I can't help but think about my grandparents as I see the photos of these buildings, especially inside them... My grandfather was born in 1889. It sure looks like life was really hard in those days, no matter where you lived. Living that high up or far north seemed to make the winters even worse. I have to respect them for having lived through it.

They certainly did live a hard life.

Slightly off topic, but for anyone interested in the late 19th century life of miners in the American west, I highly recommend Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner. It is a work of fiction, but I think fairly accurately reflects the life of a mining engineer and his family from that era. The book won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1972.

"angle of repose" is a term that anyone interested in mines should know :ylsmoke:

I just learned it from Dave on this trip :)

I bought a Book at the Bodie museum called "Bodie Bonanza" (1979) by Warren Loose whose ancestors seemed to have mined in Bodie in 1876. So far I like the content and style.

Nathan,
Great pics. Documenting the trip and friendships so well.
The one with the sunlight filtering through the trees and dust is eerie.

Awesome report! The pictures that Josh took were spectacular, he has a true gift. I wish I had taken that same rout a few months ago when I was at Bodie, maybe next time. Great job.

Sorry for the delay in posting my pics. Finally got them uploaded to photobucket. There is no post processing so there may be some dust as my sensor is dirty. I will say that the hectic pace of this trip somewhat curtailed my normal photographic activity. I hardly picked up the SLR. I'm glad we had such a varied collection of photographers on this trip to document the venture with their own viewpoint.
Enjoy.

Finally on the last section of the 395 heading south we found ourselves amongst the atmospheric ether in all its glory...
