2012 Tacoma TX Baja package

I wonder if they have done anything to the front diff to avoid the dreaded vibration that many experience when adding a small lift.

Yeah, no kidding. I've been saying that for years. You cannot put a free flowing catback on this truck. Sounds like doo-doo. No one listens to keezer. Everybody's gotta learn the hard way. Ah well. Change the cats your using and you won't have this problem.

Suspension looks pretty sweet. From the write-up, I think they copied an Icon coilover. I suppose the steering knuckle is taller to accommodate the 2" lift. Anybody have an interest in a taller steering knuckle for a Tacoma?

Totally agreed on the exhaust note. The rear shocks are simply the Bilstein 5160 Series that was developed for bolt-on fitment in stock locations. There's a pretty good listing of full-size truck applications along with Jeeps and Tacoma/FJC here - http://www.shockwarehouse.com/news/bilstein_5160.cfm I'm sure they're nowhere near the same quality as ICON or King units, but they've got to be a good step up from the regular OEM shock or even the Bilstein's they tagged for use on the FJ Trail Teams editions. For the cost I have seriously been considering them in my suspension budget.

We can be pretty sure Toyota have not concerned themselves with that, but the aftermarket has it covered - http://www.toyteclifts.com/index.ph...tegory_id=118&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=72

I wasn't aware that people experience vibes from lifting the front. I thought a diff drop was to lessen the angle of the CV joints, not fix vibes. To my knowledge, vibes from lifting the rear are caused by the 2-piece driveshaft's carrier bearing. But I could be wrong.

Here is a link to an extensive thread that should explain the issue. It is a result of a poorly designed front diff bearing. East coast gear supply has apparently come up with a solution, although I'm waiting until it gets more real world testing.

Toyota has announced pricing for the Tacoma with TRD T/X Baja package:

Acess Cab, manual trans: $33,800
Access cab, auto trans: $34,785
Double cab, manual trans: $35,085
Double cab, auto trans: $36,065

For this cash, you get the 4.0L V6, 4x4, TRD springs and Bilstein shocks, a 2 inch suspension lift, a freeflowing exhaust, BFG 265/70R16 All Terrain T/A KO tires, special rims that look like beadlock rims, but aren't, and some graphics.

For some reason, these prices are about $100 lower than the the standard TRD offroad 4x4 package with similar optional equipment. Delivery starts in May.

Update: Toyota says these prices contain six elements:
-- the base Access Cab or Double Cab truck
-- extra money for automatic transmission, if desired
-- the special TRD Off-road Package for Baja (varies slightly by vehicle type, about $3500)
-- the Baja Series package itself ($5015)
-- a factory discount of $650
-- an $810 charge for delivery and processing

Are 2013 prices that much higher than 2011? My 2011 TRD O/R double cab was quite a bit cheaper MSRP than what you have listed above.

Or, you could buy a base Tacoma and sling better parts under there for roughly the same price. Remember you're gonna to have to pay tax on top of that sticker price, around $3100 +/- in AZ, Tucson is at 9.1% sales tax, that could be used to fund better components rather going towards taxes by purchasing a cheaper model. :ylsmoke:

Total Chaos has an excellent mid-travel system that will be better than what the factory offers, plus yields more travel.

Fun concept and they'll sell every last one of them at sticker or somewhere north of sticker.

That being said, it'll appeal to the dune jumping, Coors Light crowd.

For my money, drive a hard bargain on a TRD Off Road 4x4 at somewhere near $30k, set up the suspension to suit your needs. Not too many guys on this forum would want to lose payload capacity. I went with a hybrid of ICON front coil-overs and UCAs, reservoir rears and OME Dakar heavy leaf springs on my '12. The mismatched spare tire is a mystery. Let's hope that was a goof up on a press demo model and that the production trucks actually get 5 matching tires.

I don't need to go 50mph over the whoops and dips and when I get to camp..............I want to be able to crack open a beer right away without it spraying all over me.

Not necessarily, there some of us that aren't part of the "flatbiller club" that like that stuff, hell I don't even drink....

I do like driving fast, even though I like the Baja Edition, it can be built better by using aftermarket parts, and for roughly the same price.

I have a similar suspension setup on mine as yours, I hate my OME Dakar's....they handle like poo at slow and fast speeds. Mine are going in the scrap pile, I'll give up a little capacity to have a better performing vehicle, (Some of you guys just carry too much craaaap...) however, capacity issues can be solved with long travel airbags, so you can get performance and hauling capabilities in one package....it is about the journey afterall, and not the destination, and I like to go fast... :ylsmoke:

Looks like this would be the (almost) competition for the Ford Raptor?

Not really, however for the same price as a stock Raptor, with aftermarket suspension...and some engine mods like Super Charger and such, you can fetch around 400 hp/tq out of the 4.0 V6 without too much trouble.

It would give the much heavier & wider Raptor a run for its' money.

Complete the following:

Based on the picture above, I believe Toyota stylists based the front end view on

a. Darth Vader's helmet
b. Chick Hicks in Cars
c. Other--Please specify: _____________________________________

I dunno, I kinda like the new front end...looks great when it is color coded, and not in that gawd awful Barcelona Red...
