I dont consider myself poor and still cant afford a Jeep. The price of these things is insane.
Yea, the new Jeeps are very expensive but a heck of a lot cheaper than a new Rover LR4 which is a whole lot less dedicated to off roading. Guess I'll just have to keep fixing and wheeling my old beat up Disco though I sure wouldn't mind having a new Rubi of some kind. But I also dream of Porsches so I'm living in Never Never Land to be sure on both.

Hi

I do not get it, how can it get better ground clearance with lower tires and with the same Dana 44 axles?

Standard Rubicon has 255/75/17 and is 32.1" high and the 10th Rubicon has 265/70/17 and is 31.7" according to bf goodrich.

In the article here by Matthew Scott http://www.expeditionportal.com/veh...-bumpers-more-clearance-and-larger-tires.html

Matthew scott wrote: " 2013: Jeep releases a special edition Rubicon model with steel winch-ready bumpers, more ground clearance and larger BF Goodrich KM2 tires to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the model"

"This brings ground clearance and approach and departure angles into a category never seen by a Jeep prior to this"

More ground clearance? larger tires ? Shouldnt it be lower ground clearance? Tire wider yes and but with less wheel diameter.

"The edition keeps the standard front and rear Dana 44 axles" the same axles, if you put in the sizes here

You will se that 265/70/17 wheel will give a lower ground clearance compared to standard Rubicon 255/75/17

Could be that 265/70/17 is a E-tyre and has harder side walls and do not compress so much under vehicle load that the stock rubicon 255/75/17 wich I think is a C-tyre with more flexible side walls ???

Omar, you're over thinking it. They simply put more air in the tires, thus raising the ground clearance and making the tires slightly taller.

Its sorta like figuring MPG ...the standard will never be measured to the 'exact'

Will a buyer actually walk up with a measuring device and complain about 1/2" ...likely not. Your typical soccer mom will be the buyer of this jeep...those red seats will look great with the top down.

Just my $.02

I hope soccer moms will buy it. They won't off-road them, it'll ride rough (compared to the CUVs they are used to), and they'll sell it to get a Lexus. That's when I can buy a nice one used and use it as it was intended! :smiley_drive:

You know, I have an XJ right now, but this Jeep is really tempting to me. If it does come with Cloth seats standard (the red leather appears to be optional), this would be extremely tempting. I mean, you take one of the best overland platforms, and you add a factory front winch bumper that is convertible between a full-length and a stubby bumper, available factory winch, and a factory steel rear bumper. The four color choices look very nice with this package as well. Unfortunately, funds are the issue: I can't afford a new vehicle right now.

Kudos to Chrysler for offering options that increase off-road performance. Almost all other manufacturers are heading in the other direction.

There are plenty of third party suppliers who sell parts to build up your Jeep. But being able to buy a vehicle equipped from the factory means a factory warranty, and the opportunity to fold the options into the financing for the vehicle.

Confirmation on the AEV forums, the "plug" on the rear bumper fits the AEV tire carrier.

also confirmation there from Dave that AEV had nothing to do with this model (except maybe serving as inspiration for the styling, i.e. the shape of the hood and the turned up nature of the rear).

We're in the midst of an aftermarket malaise that has finally affected factory styling. Wake me when the industry is doing tasteful again.
