I love that we are talking about streamlining, aerodynamics and gas mileage like they are bad things....

Does Toyota need 7 SUVs? Here are sales figures.
Source: http://www.Goodcarbadcar.net

RAV4 (18,541 sold in April 2013)
Highlander (9793)
4Runner (3846)
Venza (3297)
Sequoia (962)
FJ Cruiser (262)
Land Cruiser (217)

Based on sales volume, the models that Toyota should consider discontinuing are Land Cruiser, FJ Cruiser and Sequoia.

I don't disagree, but I would imagine they make a larger profit off of the 217 LCs they sell here vs the 962 Sequoias they sell...

Toyota would probably sell more of their flagship model (LC) if it wasn't priced for the 1% that can afford them. Get rid of the Sequoia and offer a Land Cruiser Base Model. I don't need wood grain, seat heaters, seat coolers, tvs, 20" rims, chrome, leather wrapped everything etc.

I guess I'm the only one seeing 4 SUV's on that list, and a lifted Corolla, Camry and Avalon.

I agree, but can Toyota make a Land Cruiser base model work here? I think there would be buyers, but I don't see them making much profit after importing them. However, if they got rid of the Sequoia, they could start building LCs here with the excess capacity, which would save them some money. Would people here buy a NA-built Land Cruiser?

No, you are not, but I'm so used to CUVs and other tall cars being lumped in with SUVs that I just gave up on making a distinction.

x3 guys.

If anything the Venza is not an "SUV" in my mind, it's very much a wagon. I like wagons (though not with 19” wheels), but apparently few American do, so cars that are much closer to a wagon all called crossover SUVs. But, it's Toyota's car and they can market it however they want.

I'm old-school enough that I don't even like the relatively new marketing term "SUV". The real SUVs, ladder frame, truck-based rigs (Bronco, Blazer, Scout, 4Runner, Suburban, etc.) were called simply "utility vehicles" for decades. That was a more accurate term and describes how people on this forum like to use such vehicles. Adding "sport" in front of "utility" only helped dilute the real 4WD heritage as utility vehicles. Are these vehicles really sporty? Now ‘utility’ vehicles are forever lumped with the very different (mostly) car-based CUVs, SUVs, etc., most of which are merely FWD cars with limited power sent to slipping rear tires.

I'm a 4Runner fan because of my 4th Gen. While the 5th Gen’s looks never won me over, I could 'live with one' if I was looking to buy a new ladder frame utility vehicle, particularly if someone makes a nice looking front bumper over that massively ugly plastic nose. Of course I don't prefer the new nose on the refreshed Tundra either.

Toyota will likely sell plenty of them regardless of what we think, I see tons of the 5th Gen. 4Runner 'cars'.

After owning a US built Tundra, I probably wouldn't buy a US built LC. Materials used and build quality remind me of an American made pickup. I would hate for a Toyota to sacrifice the quality of the LC just to make it competitive with the more affordable larger SUVs here.

On a side note, I got to sit in a 2013 T4R Trail today...thing was pretty bada$$.
