. I'm also starting to think about replacement bumpers. So far I can't decide between Aluminess and BuckStop. I like them both for different reasons. The BuckStop Baja appeals to me for the styling and ruggedness of all steel construction. The Aluminess appeals to me for the light weight of the aluminum construction. The only thing that bothers me about the Aluminess is how far it appears to stick out from the nose of the truck. I like the slim version of the power wagon Aluminess bumpers better The only draw back I see to the BuckStop is the extra weight that would hang off the front of the truck potentially causing unwanted wear and tear and adverse handling characteristics.

I have had the same thoughts, please post when you decide.
Unfortunately for me,my truck was built with very poor welds on the frame,so it is subject to the recall.Ram was supposed to announce the fix on the 9th but have pushed that back to the 24th.
I will have to wait on a bumper.
Nice looking truck.

SUMMARY:
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014 Ram 2500 trucks and 2013-2014 Ram 3500 trucks and cab chassis manufactured October 9, 2012, to July 29, 2014. The affected vehicles may have inadequate welds securing the front track bar frame brackets, which may result in the bracket components separating from the frame.

I like the Buckstop version for the 1/2 ton Ram,this guy calls it the Classic III,but I don't see it on Buckstop's site.

I added an ARE topper to mine with the rails adapted for my Yakima racks. I climb up on top of it to load kayaks and it is rock solid. I wanted to say thanks, as I spent most of the day today researching Carli Backcountry suspension! When I had mine leveled, I added the G2's and some ProComp shocks. I've been less than impressed with the ride. Outfitting my truck has turned into an obsession!

Tractor jet if you can stomach the price you won't be disappointed in Carli! I highly recommend their torsion sway bar also!

Your rig looks awesome, but as you can see by mine I'm kind of biased. I have the Carli Pintop system which I think is same as yours but with King 2.5" shocks I have also added the Carli sway bar. My opinion is this is probably the best system currently available for these trucks hands down! I installed the system in my driveway and everything went smoothly, the only thing is these trucks are heavy and if your going to do it I suggest getting the proper jacks and jackstands. I would also question how effective a hi lift would be with this much truck. As for bumpers I have the mercenary off road and like the look and clearance gained, if you like the look I suggest giving them a call they're quality is top notch.

Chet 6.7 do you have a pic of the bad welds on your trac bar brackets?

Sorry,no pictures, the truck is in OR and I am in CA right now.
I had to rent a mini van for an important trip.
Besides the cost of the rental, and the cost of motel rooms..a mini van is not a 2500CTD with a shell.

My truck is undrivable, nothing more than expensive yard art at this time.

There are some pictures in the thread below.
The welds on my truck would be graded an F in any beginning welding class.
I was nearly packed up and ready to leave the next day when I saw the linked thread.
If I was still young and stupid I would have driven it,but the thought of hurting someone bothered me.
I hope your truck is not affected.

That's horrible Chet 6.7! I just found out indeed my truck is effected by R46! I guess my next move is to look at the welds and decide how comfortable I am waiting on Chrysler to come up with a fix!

I am sorry to see you are affected as well.
I hope we don't end up with white elephant trucks,I am afraid the resale value may drop more than normal.
I suspect FCA will drag this out as long as possible, the way they handled the tie rod recall says a lot about their mindset.

I looked at the welds this morning. I'm going to drive it without worrying too much until a fix is available. Still love my truck!

I just looked through the recall thread, thats the first time I'd herd of this. If it were me and considering this to be a type of expedition vehicle where self reliance is key, I would get that thing taken care of myself by either fixing it personally or taking it to a local fab shop. The money spent would probably be a wash compared to the inconvenience of not having a truck and you would have piece of mind that it was fixed better than stock.

Had a great trip in the Ouachita National Forest! I did some hunting and got to use my camper shell for its intended purpose. Everything worked well. I made note of a few things id like to improve or add next time.

Beautiful truck '08pieceofcrap! (See how I fixed your screen-name?). :sombrero: It's the perfect set-up you have there.

My white Ram is a '14 3500 longbox, and I missed the recall by 8 days. I now spend time wondering how they come up with the recall dates, considering that they go buy build (final assembly) date, and not "frame manufacture" date. I will likely get mine tested by a certified shop and fix it myself if required. There is a lot of paranoia out there already for R46, but I'm not too worried. For the record, my welds look crappy too.

I would change my screen name if I knew how to maybe somebody can enlighten me! Thanks for the compliments. I'm trying not to worry about R46 until i get word from the dealership that they are ready to fix it.

jerstw, it is a 4XRAC indeed. It was tough to reach the back side of the bolt to put the nuts on but it is possible. For the front mount I had to remove the 3 screws that hold the diesel fill assembly and push it out of the way to gain access. I also recommend using washers on both sides and they aren't provided with the mount.
