is this the same ZF 8HP that the Chrysler 300 has or the 8sp out of the Ram? That assumes those are two separate things of course.

The ZF 8HP for the 3.6L Pentastar in the GC will be the same as the 300 (845RE). The 8sp for the oil burners and the Hemi will be the 8HP70 (higher torque capacity).
Edit - I am unsure of the differences between the car and truck 8sp, since they use the same engine currently for the 8 speed option. The MPG numbers for both the petrol and diesel models are only applicable to stock vehicles. Once you full outfit your Grand Cherokee with goodies, and load it down with all of your gear (or tow the boat), the diesel will outshine the petrol engine in fuel economy.
