It's been a long time, mate. I think we were all so excited to be recognized and invited to MMC HQ. Sadly, I've lost all the pictures from those first years due to a USB hard drive base jumping without a bungee cord. Either way, I want to say you guys were over closer to the building than the street; in the rows behind where they've had INO in recent years.

I remember driving to SoCal for a couple DSM cruises the year before, when MMC had guys from Japan attending to get footage for corporate. Next thing I know, there were meetings, and MOD was announced. Was pretty cool to be one of 30+ DSMs cruising the PCH and know corporate was interested in those events.

As for magazine and folding, if there's any chance you could put me in touch with those guys, I'd appreciate it. Gearbox Magazine started as Mitsubishi Gearbox Magazine, and ran as such for a year-plus before I dropped brand specifics in order to focus on enthusiasts of all stripes. More than three years later, I still haven't made a dime, but it's a labor of love, it's my life's work, and it will continue to get better.

Maybe we'll cross paths in Cypress this year. Should have my Gen I back on the road this month. Would like to get back out and represent.

I don't recall if I have their cards anymore but I could ask Brent if he's still in contact with them.

I would show up if more than 4 more Mitsu 4x4's showed up... but good luck with that. Jason Anderson on 4x4wire is a local in LA as are a couple on here but most are from quite a ways off.

The reality that Mitsu no longer has a 4x4 focus also makes me very hesitant to go. MOD's have really become nothing more than a car show these days and we are really out of place there.

I would appreciate it, sir.

That first year, there were six of us in 2G DSMs doing a buck-twenty across the desert to get there. I haven't been in recent years for the same reason you haven't. Depending on when it takes place this year, I would like to go. I'll be driving the Monty to Ridgecrest for the High Desert Trails Rally the first weekend in May, so the drive doesn't bug me. If I'm going to make it, I'm going to try talking it up with other Montero owners in advance. We might not be the MMC focus of recent years, but a lot of the tarmac folks appreciate - and enjoy seeing - the trucks.

We'll see.

No problem. I'll check with Brent.

Perhaps you should suggest doing MOD 2013 on 4x4wire as well as here? I'll be happy to support you on both fronts.

Once we've got dates, I'll definitely see about doing that. Would be epic to have a mini Monty meet at/around MOD. I could even tap a few contacts and see if we couldn't get a sweet parking place up on the lawn or something. Haha. Can you imagine half a dozen Monteros camped out on Katella, sitting around a campfire on the other side of the building? That would be pretty funny.

Well at least they keep you in the loop on MOD.

After my contact left, Mitsu Marketing have conveniently NEVER reached back out with invites or updates on MOD's.

As for a campfire... they do make portable fire places. I wonder if Mitsu would allow it (camping ambiance right?) and what the laws are for having an enclosed campfire in their parking lot?

On the broad subject of Mitsu 4x4 in US verus the rest of the world... Search fleaBay for Monteros and you'll see <10 right now. Search OZ and there's ~700. Search UK for Pajero + Shogun and it's closer to 900! It's mindboggling from a business perspective to me. Sure you can tout Dakar and the crowd in OZ. But for there to be even more on the islands of the UK, and then the paltry few in the US??? It's nawkin' futz!

At some point we're going to have to band together and but a giant storage facility somewhere so we can all store the parts rigs we'll have to start accumulating...
