The Camper is on!!!

So I left rainy southern California and headed north to 4WC for the install, I decided to take the scenic route to avoid LA and enjoy the Mojave with some rain. the trip over Tehachapi is always a fun one and a little snow was nice to see.





Stopped in Fresno to see my son and continued on the next day, when I arrived I was welcomed by Tom and his wonderful staff, offered coffee, water etc. in their comfortable waiting room. Shortly after I got to go out and look at my new Raven. These campers are the Swiss army knife of campers, to say I like a kid a Christmas would be an understatement!



After a quick look the 4WC installation specialists took care to do it right and were gracious enough to let me peer over their shoulder most of the time and answer my two hundred questions.





After the camper was installed Stan gave me a very detailed "walk through", and explained all of the features, raising and lowering the top, heating and water, lighting and the opening and closing of the Fiamma awning. I was on the road by 1pm for my 590 mile trip home. At 1395 pounds the truck handled differently, but because of Toyotas overbuilding of the Tundra the truck didn't have any side effects. The airbags leveled it up and the Icons smoothed it out.
Took this shot on the way south, got home late, sat back and enjoyed a double rye.

Just found this thread, you're making me seriously reconsider buying a taco in favor of a tundra. What kind of fuel economy are you getting on 35s? Looks great!

I'm only on 33's (275/70/18) and I'm averaging 13-13.5 in the winter and 14-14.5 in the summer. That's mixed driving and relatively hilly terrain . First part of my 22 mile commute is rolling at 55-60mph and the last 3-4 miles is stop & go. I could probably drive like an 80 year old grandpa and get better mileage but it's honestly not worth it for me.

Completely stock, I was getting 15-15.5 avg mixed driving.

The best highway mileage (staying under and around 70mph) I got stock was 17.5. With the lift and 33's I have gotten 16.5. With two kayaks loaded on the roof rack (wind drag) I have gotten anywhere from 15mpg to 12.5 mpg depending on wind direction.

Some people will claim some crazy numbers for gas mileage but generally I've found these people are "flat landers" and don't live places with hilly terrain.

Right now it's showing 14-16, I'm installing the Hypertech module, so I can get the speedometer and shift points back to original. This should improve it also, now with 1400# in the back, in sure I'll lose some mpg's. Still gets better mileage than the 4.0L V6 in the FJ :)

Well we went out on the shake down and had zero issues with the camper. This is the first time I've bought something of this nature and had no complaints.



We went out to Fish Creek right around 15 above sea level and set up. Amazing, you pull up, pop the latches, push up and your ready for a cold one! Crank out the Fiamma awning and your ready to relax.





Planning on doing a detailed post on the interior, once I have got it packed just right.

Here's a shot of the rear LED work lights from 200 yds. away. they definitely put out the light!



The truck worked like a dream, the Icon shocks and airbags allowed me to travel a sixty on a washboard road and it felt like asphalt! The only negative thing is the passengers side piggyback shock reservoir, contacted the air bag mounting plate and cut the ABS wire, I since have flipped the reservoir to the other side and ordered a new wire. No 4WD in deep sand, but the 390 HP pulled it thru!!

Problem was install, the shock reservoir contacted the airbag bracket and cut the speed sensor/ABS wire, and yes, you can't use the 4X4 when that happens. Got the new wire harness today so all is good.
