I know this topic is really about freestanding units but for what it is worth, we went with the OEV step that stores in the front of the aluma tray. It is nicely done by OEV, but as good as it is, it doesn't quite meet my idea of the right solution. I had to modify it by cutting it down to three steps to secure it to the bottom rail of the flatbed as to prevent forehead widening. @Chadx is absolutely correct! I think I really just want it to store in the pull-out under the door but I haven't found anything that fits there including little giants. Would love to see other solutions.

Thanks for the suggestions, freestanding is definitely best for my use as I dont want anything hard mounted that would reduce clearance/departure angle, and want the ability to use them all around the camper. As others noted, the awning seems to be a bit high to easily access depending on the terrain so the ladder will help there as well. Ended up ordering the 3-step version from Sam's Club, which was the cheapest around even after their non-member fee.

@HI-TEST at the bottom of your OEV folding stairs. Did you modify it by adding those extensions on the side? Have not seen that typically on other OEV stairs.

The extensions were included. Let me know if the photos don't answer your questions. OEV-STAIR-STEP-1.jpeg

Anyone put a Trasharoo style bag on their rear molle? Preferably the smaller driver side panel.

I ordered a Napa version as it was cheaper and had great reviews - turns out its huge and will be tough to make work on that panel. Saw a non-camper related post about this model stating that it is a nice compact size. Seems like it could work well, but thought I'd get some ideas from others before I waste more money.

I understand the concerns about carrying trash on the outside of a vehicle with bears, critters, etc - for me, this would be used much more frequently for firewood, so also open to better options for carrying wood on the outside of the camper.

Separately, looking for storage bag ideas for the 3 step Little Giant. The Amazon bag posted earlier in the thread seems huge. I measured the ladder out to be roughly 44x22x4, so seems like 48x24x6 or so would be the ideal bag. So far I've found that 48x24 is the standard size of a cornhole set bag and seems like a good solution, but again want to get some other ideas, especially something more durable and weatherproof for putting the ladder away wet and dirty.

We have a G.A.R.B. on ours and haven't had any issues. Super happy with the G.A.R.B. itself as well.

On the stairs topic, we used the Little Giant 3-step on a few trips and found it more trouble than it was worth. Nowhere easy to put it besides the floor inside the camper, which meant having to clean the feet of the ladder every time we went to stow it. Especially annoying to do when we were at a wet campsite. It also scratched the floor quite a bit.

Now we use a wide single step installed in the hitch. It’s a little higher but not that bad. Even my 11 year old daughter uses it without complaint. It’s always ready to go and I never have to touch it.
